Watching these young, black trans men, hearing their take on transition and the difficulties they experience now navigating the world as men is enlightening.
Seeing them in their masculinity, a different type of masculinity is beautiful. This is a really wonderful, insightful documentary and I'm afraid I simply do not have the words to describe how meaningful and still relevant their words are.
This really touched me. It's just amazing. A cogent, lucid reflection on gender transition.

A cis-man who knows I'm trans accused me of mansplaining to him.
Then he mansplained that me mansplaining is a side-effect of taking testosterone.
But only for trans people.
According to him cis-men are born with T so they 'know' how to deal with its effect while trans people like me are too overwhelmed by it to be able to control it properly.
I was too flabbergasted to ask him how come rape, physical violence, mass shootings etc. are done mostly by cis-men supposedly 'in control' and not by 'rabid trans men' like me.

I was fairly apprehensive when I decided to watch Abigail Shrier at UVA last night. I cannot stress enough that estrogen cream was a quick and easy fix for vaginal atrophy, and it has had no downsides beyond inconvenience. FAR less inconvenient than atrophy symptoms!
I feel like our doctors treat atrophy like it's inevitable or something, but for me and many other people I've spoken to, it's been easily treatable. We shouldn't have to suffer because of incompetent healthcare.
It's a modern-day "curse of Eve" kind of nonsense that assumes trans people should withstand pain for the sake of transitioning.

I know this is very deeply the #transfem side of Mastodon, but I've got to say: #transmen, specifically, give me an almost absurd amount of joy and delight. Trying to be a dude was *so* awful for me, and every single #trans guy friend I've ever met has just dived into that whole region with gusto and joy, and it's fucking *wonderful* to see the things they make out of masculinity.
I've got one friend, for instance, who basically lives in waistcoats and tophats, a nineteenth-century dandy out of time. I've got another who juggles his toddler daughter--the absolute apple of his eye--and his car maintenance business. Completely different, but god *damn* if they don't make masculinity every iota the celebration that femininity is for me.
So yeah. Just like--from the skirts, boobs, and eyeliner side of the gender pool, dudes, you're fucking amazing.

The authors use a Christian nationalist who detransitioned as their primary anecdote, but don't include anything about his Christian conversion or far right beliefs.

I've known people both online and off who had to trade sex for shelter, trade sex for a shower and a hot meal, trade sex for clothes, or other basic needs. #TransMen and #transmasc as well as #TransWomen.
It's difficult to stand up for what's right, as a #trans person, because some people see it as delegitimizing if I speak up for sex workers. I guard my legitimacy in the eyes of people with power as carefully as I can, but it's for nothing if I don't also speak up for those on the margins.

You can be a massive overcompensating jerk because others make you feel insecure about your manhood, or you can be a solid dude- fun, friendly, kind, maybe a little self-deprecating or sensitive about it but not in a way that lets it rule your life.
The reason to be kinder about people's bodies is because most of us aren't overcompensating douchebags, but as for the overcompensating douchbags themselves: Fuck em.
