A very autumnal scene in a local woodland valley, the main growth are large beech trees along with oak and a few others for company. The forest floor is a carpet of fallen brown leaves, one tree, a small birch sapling still has most of its leaves though, presenting us with a a rainbow like fade from green at the top through yellow and orange to brown at the base. It was a grey and misty day with a high moisture content to the air.

I placed the winning bid for this wool rug at the Navajo rug auction in Crownpoint, NM. It is about 26" wide by 30" tall and was hand-woven by Helen Kaye of Blue Gap, AZ.

The Crownpoint Rug Auction has been providing an opportunity for Navajo weavers to sell their beautiful rugs (and other crafts) to the public since 1964.

At first glance there would seem to be a solitary tree growing out of a limestone pavement on the top of a hill, but on closer inspection there are actually two tree trunks very close together and the crowns are inseparable in the photo. It is a day of mixed weather, the sky is menacing grey clouds but the odd gap out of shot is allowing sunlight to illuminate a small patch of rock on the horizon.

For #TreeTuesday, some lovely and rare Torrey Pines (Pinus torreyana) in lush coastal vegetation in early summer, just as the morning fog burns off.

These trees only grow in a narrow coastal strip of San Diego County, between La Jolla and Del Mar (a subspecies grows on Santa Rosa Island). Photographed just two days ago, on July 2nd, 2023.

Trees of sufficient size can be tapped repeatedly over the years without harm, although scarring means the same spot can't be used again.

A beautiful, undiscovered lake near the border with Utah in the Ponderosa forest. There are developed campgrounds here, as well as a no-fee area for "dispersed" camping. Great views of the La Sal Mountains.

A walk along an old, long abandoned, lane through the wood. Littered with fallen limbs and covered in dead leaves from the surrounding trees, this old pathway is cut into the hillside by hundreds of years of use. There is a very prominent tree to the left, only the lower section is in the shot as its massive trunk spleys out into the moss covered ground.

A low-res (0.4 MP) pic shot in the summer of 2000 with my first digital camera. I've up-scaled it up a bit here.

This leaning tree grew in the woods by our house. I played on it as a kid, designating it the "horse tree." When I say I grew up in the sticks, I mean it. Unlike some people, however, I consider that a positive. Acres of woods were my playground.
