Huh. So one thing I'm not crazy about (which I'm guessing is from the 4.2.0 update) is that in the web UI, there seem to be cases where it puts hashtags *below* all media, regardless of how the user originally composed the post? (I'm guessing maybe this is if there is only media & hashtags?).

I'm sure I'll get used to it but...

@nileane Stole this, thanks! You should still push the relevant changes to upstream as pull requests if it benefits the core. My own changes been quite radical so there is very few to actually contribute in. It would be a fun project to rewrite and propose the SCSS/CSS stack of Mastodon to a more manageable version but that might be for another life. At least this way you and I can do good WHILE doing our own things.

I've seen many of the alignment issues are due to use of icon fonts instead of SVG assets, that's why been replacing them one by one in #MastodonBirdUI. :blob_smile_sweat: @renchap #CSS #MastoAdmin #UI #WebDev

Adobe manoeuvred the XD app out of the creative cloud back in June. This doesn’t bode well for XD, I think it will be replaced by Figma pretty soon. Also, the XD help now says the app is in ‘maintenance mode’, this is Adobe’s zomby mode.

Took me a while to find the toggle to turn on search for my posts because I didn't realize that the 4 things at the top of the Public Profile page and reach page were tabs.

If they're tabs, they should look like tabs? I barely registered them, I thought they were just confirming current status of something.

Anyways, my #UI $0.02 for the day. I think the #Mastodon devs are doing a good job and moving ahead to bring much asked-for things without compromising their values.

I don't want to sound like a complete dimwit, but does anybody else find themselves clicking Gmail's "attach" button instead of the "hyperlink" button on a fairly regular basis? They're right next to each other and have pretty similar basic shapes. It's not exactly rocket science to see which does what, but I feel as though they could be a little more distinct. #UI #design #email

:alert_rgb: Attention every #MastodonBirdUI users and admins out there: If your instance is updated to Mastodon 4.2.0, the Bird UI versions before 1.6.0 are NOT compatible with Mastodon 4.2.0. With older versions there will most probably be UI glitches.

So if you upgrade Mastodon you should really update your Bird UI version to the latest which is 1.7.5rc3-nightly at the moment.

1.7.5 will be released during the following weekend depending on how well my body fights the COVID-19 (not serious really, just dry cough left).

We have reached the “Late Stage Microwave” era of software #UI / #UX. NOBODY likes the way their microwave works; It’ll have a numpad or a dial, but not both, and it defaults to weight mode (who even uses that!?). The interface is based on off the shelf parts and has nothing to do with the user experience. The ROM code was written in 1992 and it is *never* going to be improved — but the chassis is available in white, black or a colour you don’t like!

I was just reading a Guardian article about travel, and because all of North America gets served their American edition, the distances were in miles -- a unit of measure no longer used in Canada, where I am.

A unit of measure I have to convert to metric to understand.

And it struck me: if online newspapers and magazines can make responsive layouts and splashy transitions, why not put placeholders for all the units and let readers choose metric or imperial?
