This morning, my #Robin friend Little Mate spotted a passing Sparrowhawk, and proceeded to sound the alarm. Birds recognise the alarm calls of other species, so all of the other birds within hearing distance knew that there was an aerial predator in the area. Found the Great Spotted Woodpecker nest today. Every year they nest in a group of trees near my house. The chicks have just hatched and are noisy little birds, hidden from sight in the hole right now, but as they get bigger they start looking out at the world. This is one of the juveniles fledged this year. No pink in the feathers, a dark band across the eyes which have a red rim. As they get older the face turns white, the eye rim turns to yellow and the pink colouration shows.

My #Robin friends (Ribin and Little Mate) this morning in #Bath #Somerset #UK. I gave Ribin a hand with his hunting and we found lots of worms and landhoppers. As soon as he had eaten enough, he flew up to the top of the cherry tree to do some singing.

One of my #Robin friends (Little Mate) in the misty, frosty morning today. He was very chatty this morning. At one point a Sparrowhawk flew over and he darted into a bush, calling his aerial predator alarm call, alerting his partner and other birds nearby. Once the threat had passed, he came out and resumed chatting.
