The White Nile and the Blue Nile are both tributaries of the Nile. The White Nile flows from Lake Victoria, through Uganda, and is longer than the Blue Nile. The Blue Nile's headwaters are Lake Tana in Ethiopia, and it supplies 80% of the water that flows through the Nile downstream from their junction, which is in Khartoum.

The names refer to the actual color of the waters, which result mainly from the differing mineral composition of the riverbeds.
