Slack your fourth string, salute the Early Bird.
You can see some of the accumulated notes and doodles in this picture, also from the Ukulele Cosmos forum.
Borrowed from the Ukulele Cosmos website, a splendid photo from Belgium of Saint Nicolas showing off the Ken Timms Travel Ukulele. This is a handmade mahogany uke being sent between Cosmos members to accumulate signatures and pictures of its travels.

Hi there Mastodoners. Been in a bit of a shitty mood for no good reason over the past day or so, but it was just improved by my #ukulele lesson. Played "Sunny Came Home", a catchy little number about a woman setting her abuser's house on fire, hopefully with him still in it. Fairly easy chords, but capoed up and with some deceptively tricky changes. We also did "Side by Side", which is just fun and jazzy. Need more like that in my repertoire.
Matt at World of Ukes has just listed the Pono PTE ukulele I'm selling. Lovely instrument, but I don't need the electro side of it and I found the full tenor size less comfortable for me than my usual sopranos (which seems to be the exact opposite of most people's experience).
£150 from the sale is being donated to Thames Valley Hospice, Matt's charity of choice.
Reading about alternative ukulele tunings (which isn't where I found the line "Sheila Hancock's crotch puppet", before you ask), the sort of thing I find quite fascinating but also fairly baffling. Tempted to give some of these open tunings a bash, despite not exactly being a whizz with "normal" GCEA or AD#FB.
Good excuse for owning more than one instrument 😉
Today's video is a collaboration with my friend Juliet Green. We're playing the Irish folk tune "Brian Boru's March" with me on ocarina and baritone ukulele and Juliet on tenor saxophone and bass!
Removed the guitar-style tuners from the Uma Baby T ukulele and replaced them with some fancy friction pegs from my box of spare parts. Much better 🙂 I'll fill the screw holes later.
Also took the opportunity to to switch the unnamed fluorocarbon strings it came with for a set of Rotosound Nylgut, which give the sound a little more body and are a particularly cool shade of blue.
Time to re-up my intro post. Hi there Fedifolk, I'm Kerri. I mostly post about #books, #SFF, #AssistiveTechnology, my adventures learning the #Ukulele and whatever else strikes my fancy. (with 2024 on the horizon, expect some #USPol too.) Also love #Baseball, #Hockey, #Dogs, #MusicalTheatre, and #Advocacy among many other things. Oh, and I wrangle calendars and medical records for a living, but you won't hear much about that. Proudly #Blind and #Aroace. Nice to meet you.
My new #book is now officially announced and available to preorder: https://www.theukulelebookshop.com/p/anthology-of-alternate-ukulele-tunings-print/
Anthology of Alternate Ukulele Tunings includes 12 original works for #ukulele in up to seven different linear tunings, all feasible with a standard low G set (on tenors).

Why I like Mastodon: I don't play ukulele, but perusing the hashtag, looks like Mastodon's ukulele community is fairly active here. #Ukulele
Today I’m quite strongly considering getting a baritone #ukulele. I like my little Makala Dolphin but I think I prefer the way the bigger ones sound?
What does a baritone #ukulele sound like?
Like a ukulele, I guess, but less shrill. Most people know ukes from the little soprano or tenor ones that you get nieces and nephews of your siblings that you're still getting even with. I like the IDEA of a ukulele, but was not a big fan of the register.
This sounds lovely to my ears, if not quite as full as a regular acoustic #guitar
(Minor eq, compression, and reverb added with #Reaper.)
This #Kala model (KA-TEAK-BE) was list $150 with the electronics (tuner, EQ, pickup) but you can get it without for $100. Also you can get 20% off anything at all at kalabrand.com with one of the coupon codes I forgot to use
More photos of my newest acquisition.
A teak #baritone #ukulele from #Kala, it's strung DGBE (i.e. the highest strings on a guitar), so like playing guitar on easy mode. You don't even need to roll down the window when you play in your car at lunch, and it fits in an overhead compartment on a flight.
Was getting dressed earlier and heard a sound that was like plunk!-BOING, and within a microsecond my mind was reminded of the old Tom and Jerry cartoons when one of them is rounding a corner and starts to drift, and their feet spin around behind them. Can’t you just hear that sound? I mean assuming you’re…what…over 45? Walked out to the living room - my #ukulele had popped a string.
There might be old and new friends that would like to see my small #Ukulele herd...
I just realized I probably have some #ukulele players in my timeline so here goes: I can play a few basic chords on the uke and I want to learn more and get better. I would like recommendations for apps or YouTube channels or online classes so I can improve. Thanks!
Demain je serai à #devoxxfr2023 pour présenter
Fun(ctional) Domain Driven Design avec du #ukulele dedans !
C'est à 16h45.
This may be premature, but I'm feeling compelled to post this #introduction. I'm Bob Merberg and am new to Mastodon. [Edit: It’s been about 8 months now. Still feel new ]
Sind hier #ukulele Spieler:innen unterwegs? Versuche gerade Enjoy the Silence von #depechemode möglichst werkgetreu umzusetzen.
Was ist da los?!
