At various points in Beaux-Arts the player will be able to overhear conversations happening elsewhere in the house, so I made a script to fade out the subtitles based on distance from the source to imitate sound falloff.

I caught a bug tonight, I don’t want to repeat it and look for it now... tested how the game reacts to changing gamepads, how button images are updated in the settings, how the gamepad works via wire and Bluetooth
Dualsense connected via Bluetooth and then connected to a wire, #unity caught the events of the share/options buttons 2 times in a row in one click, I click on share, and the game opens and closes the inventory 🙂 if the wire is disconnected, the bug disappears

Steam threw us its new rules, to which we need not only to adapt, but also to make a new code. And you also need to understand that Unity does not have official support for work with Steam Input
I don't want to use Steam Input completely, because for example it is very difficult for #unity especially if I have already configured everything through Unity Input System.
I am still thinking about the best way to proceed. Because I don't want to have the lack of a gamepad support icon for Steam, which has weight in some of its search algorithms
3 weeks ago I went full Linux on my PC. Linux Desktop really came a long way and I can see it as my main system for the coming years.
But because of #gamedev I unfortunaly had to reinstall Windows 10 today on a spare drive. #Unity is just a mess on my 1440p monitor, I can't read sh*t. For a smaller project I'm also using #Gamemaker and I really don't fell confident using a beta, although I hadn't much trouble there.

Sad to hear about the new upcoming round of layoffs at Unity. I do agree that Unity has been biting more than they can chew for a long time so I welcome them reducing their focus and thus their workforce. There are places in the game where you need to use a firearm to go further. We placed a lot of ammo for this so that the player can progress further. But if the player shoots in the air and still has 0 ammo, I added zones that will automatically add 1 ammo if there are none.

The job search just kind of sputters along. Wish I could get worked up about it, but I can't. I need to find a project to start. I spent some time yesterday looking at the Godot game engine, after the #Unity disaster kind of took that option away, although its tight integration with Visual Studio is a plus. One indi #GameDev said Godot's lack of console support makes it a non-starter. Wonder if it should matter to me?

Now I wasn't in this Town Hall, I was at Unite doing a talk, and then hopped on a taxi with my Unity peeps to head to the airport. As we're in the taxi, I read the news out to everyone that the Intel CEO has just resigned for... dating a subordinate.
Taxi goes bananas, I hear the whole Town Hall story, and we all connect the dots - "aaahah all you assholes know each other, of course this is why you went and got board approval to boink the HR director, of course"

So, at some point at the end of one of the Unite Berlin events, Riccidude went on stage in a Unity Town Hall and announced that he was dating the HR director, *with board approval*.
The board approval part is, of course, important, because if you're breaking that many ethics and employment rules, you really want to make sure the board is complicit. That way, if the feces hits the wind apparatus, there's a whole raft of dudes that can take it with you.
It wasn't a secret, because both Riccidude and the HR director bragged to everyone about it (and harassed subordinates in the process). It was a big problem, though, because obviously you can't have a C level suit dating the HR director, that's all kinds of bad (hence the harassment lawsuit). There was also a sexual harassment suit, 'cause he couldn't keep his pants on (was it a part of the harassment lawsuit, or was it separate? I can't remember anymore, but anyways)
As we celebrate Riccidude's exit stage straight into the pit, here's a fun little story I will always remember sneeringly:
Riccidude was, among other things, desperate to get laid, and was constantly chasing women around, to the point where there's an harassment lawsuit, involving him and the HR director, whom he was involved with.
#Unity is firing^W^H accepting the retirement of its CEO. But I think it’s too late. No one in their right mind will trust Unity after the stunt they tried to pull this year.
