@jalefkowit #UnpopularOpinion if you are in the military and you have to decide whether or not to shoot a target, then the punishment for hitting an innocent target should be the same fate as the hit target. It will certainly make them think twice before pressing a button (and I mean all the people involved in hierarchy)

In my view, most likely "never". WebP is slated to become a defacto "JS-like" browser feature. Anything other than online viewing in a web browser on your own domain, falls apart.
Drag and drop into your email or messenger app? Save as wallpaper? Embed in newsletter? Read in RSS reader? Play with in image editor? Archive with a script and generate appropriately sized thumbnails? Upload to another web app?

Unpopular opinion. Nemám rád ORM.
Ve chvíli, kdy řeším komplexnější dotaz, ORM mi prostě nestačí. Klidně tahá data, která nepotřebuju. Klidně sestaví dotaz, který ignoruje důležitý index. Čím jsou DB schopnější, tím složitější ORM musí být, aby tyto schopnosti pokrylo. No a než ležet v dokumentaci a snažit se zjistit, jak ORM přemluvit ke kýženému výsledku, raději si dotaz napíšu přímo.
Nebývalo tomu tak vždycky a dnes lituji, že tomu tak nebývalo.

Unpopular Opinion - I work for a school district in IT and I have been called out to rooms for various issues. When I get there the teacher is like "Technology and me don't get along..." And their issue was they didn't turn on the device on in the first place! My opinion - retire or do ANYTHING else! If you can't figure out how to turn on basic hardware you have no right to teach the next generation! #unpopularOpinion

"New" Beatles song is interesting but obviously produced in modern style which ruins the "time capsule" aspect of it for this listener.
What killed it for me was the piano which has ZERO dynamic range.
Producers these days keep using "loudness war" techniques (why? Most people aren't consuming music over the air now, so this should be over...) and everything is compressed to hell. Rather sad, really, because dynamic range is a good thing.

The new boostagrams-as-chapters is straight-up messy. Those Boostagram chapters and their images stomp right over the album art and linger until the the next boost chimes in or the next podcaster-originated chapter change comes along.
A nifty hack, but a hack none the less. To use a bad analogy, it feels like this should be a parallel 'channel' like what we see in HD FM Radio. 98.6.1 (main content), 98.6.2 (boost channel), etc.

In a vast majority of cases, an old laptop, or a thin client, is more adapted and way cheaper and will have #USB 3 and 1Gbps #ethernet using proper chips.

Maybe being atheist should be a requirement for any public office. The amount of misguided radicalism caused by religion is a good argument for that, IMHO. So @thatfrisiangirlish and I watch a lot of shows and cuddle and philosophize and extrapolate. So I think we moved on from Obi Wan to Star Trek: Enterprise. NGL this show got a really unfair white-fan-boy-nostalgia treatment that largely went unchallenged. I really feel this is one of the most underrated Trek series and it deserved a longer run and more respect.

Folks, please…! Before you drink the #react Kool-Aid, take a look at #htmx or any other framework that let's you extend your current server side application without buying into a whole new ecosystem. You can have interactive websites even without react. You can have a specific UI/UX without react. I'm not saying react is bad, it's just completely overblown for most use-cases. And chances are high you underestimate the downsides. Stay small, stay lean!

Got inspired to share an #UnpopularOpinion elsewhere so might as well toss it here: I’m glad we’re getting rid of headphone jacks and I never want them back.
Wires are fucking awful. They get caught on everything and tear your ears off. They always get tangled. They either awkwardly hang around your clothes or you run them down your shirt which is also weird. You’re tethered to the device and have to keep it on you at all times. Headphone jacks also = less water resistance.
Good riddance.
Most Rebecca Sugar songs (Steven Universe) are just bossanova's that have the tempo either sped up or slowed down.

#UnpopularOpinion I don't like instances that allow far more than 500 characters per toot. #ActivityPub is not a blog platform. I tend to just scroll over posts that are too long. I didn't come here to read long texts. I think that toots should be short messages. With links if need to more persistent and retrievable content. Toots are meant to be more like short-lived status updates. Which is why I auto delete toots after a few days, unless they get traction.

I think the Internet Archive has about a year or less before being closed down. They face multiple lawsuits demanding better collection management - but they have little or no curation at all.
Just go look for yourself: Taylor Swift albums jumbled up with console games, copied blu rays and random video with no tags - a real museum has direction, purpose and the IA needs to staff up and stop being a huge dumpster of random shit. Or the inevitable will happen.

And another #unpopularopinion on the Digital Markets Act. lol. Everyone will hate me: Side-loading will make everything worse. The current model of trust in the App Store (I agree some of it is security theater and most of it is Apple wanting a huge monetary piece of the pie, which is why we're at this point in the first place) paired with sandboxing and limited access to APIs is a very fine line to walk. iOS does so better than anyone else and yet they improve upon it with every release.

Here's an #unpopularopinion on the Digital Markets Act :D I think Apple Pay should remain the only viable solution on iOS to access payment features of the NFC chip. The only ones who would benefit from opening this would be large banking institutions but at a huge cost to ease of use to the consumer. The consumer would lose in every case.
Posts about why #Mastodon doesn't attract - or rather *keep* - more users are popular now. This might be an #unpopularopinion, but I think those concerns are either exaggerated or people should spend more time researching it before committing to an instance (a mistake I also did with my first account).
As for the tech part, now it's as easy as #Twitter, you make an account, log in, and post. For mobile, there's an official app, but also alternatives, as well as the website. More choice is good.

Book your instance as a service, so you don’t have to care about the complicated parts. I am a happy and proud customer of @mastohost. Do it for yourself and, say, max 5 friends or family members.
