Hate when devs don't make their apps horizontal compatible in addition to vertical. Especially business apps.
Often digital metaphors have their origin in analogue models (e.g. window, desktop, folder, ...).
But where does it come from that we associate the "x" with deleting an entry or closing a window?

Unbekannt, weil z. B. vertippt 🤪 Willkommen deepl und bing Übersetzer. Bye, bye google.

Finally #SSB community cleared some time to tackle the multidevice issue.
Although actively volunteering (#product, #usability) for the community, I don't personally use it much nor recommend to friends, still. I will once edit and multidevice are implemented.
For me, it means #SSB is ready for prime-time. And boy we need serverless, cloudless, not-tampered-by-tyrants communication tools.

1) is legible
2) is above the input
3) doesn’t move about

Following this #Bloomberg article on #Apple #VR there’s a lot of chatter about the #hardware. Which imo, misses the point entirely. I couldn’t care toffees about the hardware at this point. I want to know #usability of #software. The advent of the gui and the mouse pointer brought personal computing to the masses. Right now VR input is basically a shitty floating touch screen. Trying to type? Point and click letter by letter. Trying to select a menu option. Point and tap (punch?). It’s bleh.

Ich kann verstehen, dass die #Usability leidet, weil manche Apps die #DMs nicht gesondert darstellen. Was ich aber viel schlimmer finde: Alle DMs sind, egal wo, #unverschlüsselt. Jeder Admin kann die mitlesen. Ob hier, oder bei der #Birdsite. Das alleine ist für mich Grund genug nur Threema (oder was gefällt) als Dienst für Nachrichten zu nutzen. Ein Anruf eines Nachrichtendienstes oder Staatsanwaltschaft nach Beschluss und fast alle geben direkt deine Daten raus.

Neuer USB Stick, wunderbar klein, der ist so glatt & sitzt so stramm im Port, daß man ihn nur mit großer Mühe ohne Werkzeug wieder abziehen kann. Geht natürlich zurück, da unbrauchbar. Die beiliegende Schlaufe ist keine Lösung, da der Stick beim abziehen verkantet.
Anbei ein weiteres Bild mit einem älteren Gerät ähnlicher Bauart, aber einer rundum verlaufenden Kerbe. Weniger schick, aber butterweich abzuziehen.
I have a task I need to complete every day. After completion, I slightly adjust its due time. It’s tedious and it doesn’t help that #Reminders app on #iOS prefers a ‘clean’ look over usability.
Why aren’t the info buttons always visible on the right side of the list? I could then immediately tap one and see its details.
Instead, I first need to tap and focus an item so that its info button would be revealed, only then can I tap the info button and launch the details.
Why, Apple, why?! At least make it optional, although this is probably the least likely outcome.

Question: I migrated to Mastodon from Twitter about 6 months ago. When I came here, the advice I read over and again was to use tags to find interesting posts and people. But I see so few people using tags. Why? Are they not useful after a certain time on the platform?

I was comfortable with my workarounds, overlooking the fact that my coffee pot interface had become so user-unfriendly that it was actually dangerous.
And that, right there, is a metaphor for #software #usability.
The #OpenPGP universe, for example, is rife with broken moka pots.
If you are a maker of things, then the more you know, the more important it is you listen to people who don´t. Because people shouldn't have to know all these things to safely use our tools.
Anyone that has ever done some usability design and/or research saw this coming. The tactile feedback is simply unrivalled.

Das hat nur bedingt mit Schulung der MitarbeiterInnen zu tun. So ein Teil muss einfach den Prozess selbst für Ungeschulte in maximal einer Minute ermöglichen.
As side effect of the recent work on actions, @zemarmot implemented displaying actions' menu path in the action search popup of #GIMP as a #usability feature.
It can help one know where to find actions in menus (or shortcuts) rather than tediously explore menus.

That is bad, and you should feel bad. Even Discourse-based forums work in w3m.
