Einen entscheidenden Nachteil hat #Friendica wie ich so langsam feststelle: Es gibt keine #App, die so richtig rund damit funktioniert.

I just had two posts #censored from mastodon.social. I will never know the real reason, but both were just the longest possible sequence of tags, to reach and be visible to a large audience. I suspect what ticked the hammer off were tags referring to "prohibited" substances. namely #thc #weed #marijuana #LSD #acid #tryptamine #hallucinogenic. the posts were deleted without informing me even though I was also using tags such as "moderation" and "noalcohol" in the same post. why is it forbidden to talk positively about these blissful compounds that nature gifts us, while hyperconsumption of #alcohol, #nicotine and #coffee is normalized and even encouraged, and the elite is allowed to indulge unquestioned, including #public #officials?

.@jik This is another one of those situations where the best answer is likely that the industry needs to create a better #authentication mechanism. Memorizing a code is terrible #UX from the jump. The fact that it also isn't long enough to foster confidence is just extra.
But it does cause problems. It's the reason why the big platforms need to offer this kind of thing in a way which harms #user #privacy. Since these short codes can't actually be trusted, they want to lock-in #2FA to a user's #phone, situating them with location services, and reducing the likelihood of an impersonation attempt.
As an industry, we can do much better. But of course, #PII is money. This tends to incentivize businesses to only propose #security solutions which don't interfere with consuming user #data.

I love my #privacy bubble on Mastodon but it does get a bit tiring to see the oft-repeated notion that all #data collection is equally unethical. For individuals and small organizations in particular it is important to know about their audience. A world with zero #user #tracking would not at all lead to less consolidation in markets or digital visibility. Even more importantly: Even with all the privacy law that we have (and what we still need), there is still plenty of scope for helpful #analytics.
