Cathedral Valley
Capitol Reef National Park, UT
This is one of the least visited sections of one of our most visited National Parks—a respite from the crowds. The loop requires a 4WD, high clearance vehicle and includes fording the Fremont River.
It can be driven in a day, but I love to stay at the tiny campground nestled among piñon & juniper trees half-way around. This late afternoon vista was but a very short walk from my campsite.

This is on Hole in the Rock Rd.
This 62-mile dirt trail brought an expedition of early mormon settlers in covered wagons to the edge of the Colorado River - where they had to spend 6 weeks building some kind of road type structure wide enough to lower their wagons down to the river with ropes. Then had to build a ferry to ford the Colorado.
It was supposed to be a 6 week expedition, but it took them 6 months.
One of the best Ancestral Puebloan pictographs I've ever seen. Really spectacular!

On the one hand, Utah is one of the biggest consumers of porn in the US, and this is going to seriously disappoint a lot of Utah based internet jerker-offers.
On the other hand, Pornhub is making so much money, that losing Utah business is less of a loss, and way less of a pain in the ass, than implementing an ID verification system.
I wonder how many other sites will follow suit.

Our last day in #Utah! It was almost 80º and sunny. Just beautiful. We decided on #hiking a loop trail in the mountains. Well... There were patches of snow as we hiked and we were amused. Our puppy loved it and rolled in it. Then about 75% in, we were knee deep in snow. Did I mention I was wearing shorts? and sandals? My toes were so cold. It was too late to turn around, but with lots of breaks and rubbing life back into my feet, we made it. Utah will not soon be forgotten...

Since I started photographing birds in Texas, we have been keeping track of all the birds we identify in the eBird app. The app is useful in telling us which birds are common to the area and if they have been seen in the last week. According to the app, 98 different species have been identified at the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge in the past week. Today, we identified 29-- ten of which we have never seen before Utah! This yellow-headed blackbird is one of the new ones to us.
