When they gave #BaldursGate 1 & 2 a remake they added a handful of new characters... none of which are very interesting.
Well, except for Hexxat.
She's the exact kind of vampire that people don't like, meaning, she doesn't like what she's become and wants to be human again. This makes sense though, as it makes her someone our Bhaalspawn protagonist can easily empathize with.
Her situation is not presented as positive or alluring. Hexxat deals with potential threats from every other companion, except for Imoen, their conversations simultaneously heartwarming and heartbreaking.

'Tis the season, so I'm thinking about #vampires. In Bram Stoker's "Dracula", he repeatedly refers to the garlic used to ward off vampires as "flowers". Dr Van Helsing has them delivered from the Netherlands, where they know about growing flowers from bulbs. When Lucy wears a necklace of garlic, it isn't a string of papery white bulbs like you might have in your pantry for cooking. She has a garland of these blooms.

Paradise is in every way a better movie than Jupiter Rising. It has a similar premise. Essentially it's a vampire story. But Paradise is a chilling extension of neoliberal capitalism, into an age of VC-funded or corporate run biohacking, that allows a parasitic ruling class to literally suck workers for years of life, and live for centuries.

Arkane's latest open world first person shooter Redfall dropped on Xbox Game Pass at 10am local time, and I started playing it at 10:45pm.
I *tried* to start at 9:45pm, but in spite of preloading, it wanted to reinstall the entire game.
I discovered this year that in working through the Arkane games I own, I love what they do, and they just have some hook that gets in there and makes me want to keep playing.
...until now.
I'm not sure what it is about Redfall. The atmosphere is excellent, the game sent chills down my spine in the same way that Prey does, but it just feels like something is missing.
There was just nothing there that hooked me. I'm going to go back and give it another go, and see if I just didn't play for long enough, or if this is an unusual miss from Arkane.
