I came across his grave earlier this year on San Michele, the atmospheric cemetery island in the Venice Lagoon.

This week I've been mainly reading, no. 101
The problem with Martin Gayford's new book, Venice: City of Pictures (2023), is that its neither one thing nor another. It picks up many themes/issues from #arthistory but shies away from really developing these in detail, But,, equally there is too much #art & not enough more general discussion of #Venice the city for a recent visitor. Gayford seems unable to make up his mind what book he wanted to write & this falls between the stools

I am frequently amused that, in German-language #folklore , the boundary between dwarves and Venetians can be rather fluid.
Indeed, they are often called "Venedigermännchen" - "Little Venetian Men". In this particular tale, one is described as being one span high - a mere 20 cm or so!

#Sonntag ist wohl Waschtag in #Venedig. Ganz im Osten der Stadt, wo sich kaum Touristen hin verirren, hing daher heute massenhaft Wäsche zwischen den Häusern und Kanälen. In einigen Gassen roch es quasi Aprilfrisch ^^ Ein sehr lustiger Anblick und für die Nase eine verblüffende neue Venedig-Erfahrung.

Venice to start charging visitors entry fee next year (Reuters).
"Venice plans to experiment with an admission fee of 5 euros($5.35) for day trippers next year to try to manage the flow of tourists drawn to its historic canals, the city council said on Tuesday.
The fee will be applied on a trial basis on 30 days next year, focusing mainly on spring bank holidays and summer weekends when tourism numbers are at their peak. All visitors over the age of 14 will have to pay it.
The aim was to find "a new balance between the rights of those who live, study or work in Venice and those who visit the city," Venice tourism councillor Simone Venturini said."
