Loving it on iOS so far. One thing I’d love to see is the ability to block scripts just like Brave #VivaldiBrowser #vivaldi

Just installed Vivaldi on my iPad, synced my data from Vivaldi on Mac, added my mobile bookmarks from my previous mobile browser, and finetuned everything.

<tl;dr>
Vivaldi for iOS is awesome beyond my wildest dreams.

Next up, iPhone install. HELL YEAH

Vivaldi – Setting an Example for Other Instances on Mastodon regarding Ableism:

I don't often have good things to say about many companies, however, in this case I have no choice but to commend the makers of #VivaldiBrowser in regard to their @Vivaldi instance, here on Mastodon.

Many users with disabilities, including myself, have often taken exception to most instance rules and the wording of the "Mastodon Server Covenant". I have had a piece on the back burner about this issue for quite some time, while examples of this problem continued to occur. Many disabled users have said they feel excluded by these rules, and therefore, left vulnerable to ableism. I personally have had certain instance administrators ignore blatant examples of ableism, seemingly on the technicality that, it does not violate their rules; or that of the Mastodon Server Covenant. To be clear, the instances I have accounts on (kolektiva.social and neurodifferent.me) do list ableism as an offense, and neurodifferent.me seems particularly protective of CERTAIN users in this way.

Servers on mastodon are required under the covenant to have:
"Active moderation against racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia.
Users must have the confidence that they are joining a safe space, free from white supremacy, anti-semitism and transphobia of other platforms."
There is absolutely no mention of ableism or any categorization that it would fall under. So, what about Vivaldi social?

I downloaded the Vivaldi browser last week and have not completely familiarized myself with it but, if you like the bells and whistles that go along with customizable browsers, you should like Vivaldi. It's equipped with many fantastic features for research and writing, as well. They have also recently taken steps to protect the privacy of it's browser users from prying Google eyes. After discovering that they had an instance here on Mastodon, I reached out to Vivaldi who graciously responded to me on several occasions. Their Mastodon instance even offers its users a blog space for writing. This was an exciting prospect for me.

When I looked up instance rules for Vivaldi social, I found the rules to be very similar to many instances and Mastodon's server covenant with a couple of additions including: xenophobia and casteism. Though xenophobia would seem to encompass ableism, I asked about the absence of the term on their server rules. Today, I received a response that speaks volumes about the character of those involved with Vivaldi and their Mastodon instance.

The correspondence said in part: "While for us it's common sense that any form of discrimination is not acceptable, it probably is best to spell it out more clearly. So, we've tweaked the wording of the server rules now." So what do Vivaldi's "tweaked" rules say?

"No discrimination of any form (incl. racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, casteism, ableism, etc.)".

I was pleasantly flabbergasted by this. Words like "fantabulous" and "bravissimo" are not a strong enough complement to this statement of equality and inclusion of the disability community by Vivaldi. Thank you so much for this consideration. Hopefully, other servers will follow the example you have set by adding one simple word to your server rules. You are truly a friend and ally to people with invisible disabilities throughout the world. There is no doubt in my mind about another statement on Vivaldi's server registration page: "EVERYONE IS WELCOME". Thank you again Vivaldi.

Tried the @Vivaldi browser. A good example of when "the more the better" doesn't work. Sure it is an IMHO.

Still very interesting. Having your emails and calendars integrated into a browser is a good alternative when OS-built-in tools for this are crap.

Any idea why the #VivaldiBrowser would show me a NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID upon first start of the Linux x86_64 binary?

I am trialling #vivaldi and comparing with #brave and #Chrome
with Vivaldi on, the laptop fan is on permanently, once I switch it off, it is very peaceful...
As much as I would love to use #Vivaldi I will stick with #Chrome and #Brave ...
Any explanations? Running both on Windows 10.

If you enable all the ad-blockers in Vivaldi Browser and visit YouTube...

... YouTube will now claim you are offline.

This is the future of all Chromium-based web browsers.

If you are using Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, or Vivaldi, you're using a Chromium-type browser.

Google develops and owns the source code to Chromium. It is what they use to build Google Chrome. Google also own YouTube. -- The fix is in.

The solution? Firefox.

So first impressions of the 6.2 update released today is that performance does seem better. So overall it feels a bit snappier and more responsive on Linux. Have not had time to test it out on Windows yet.

And the changelog (~170 items) is absolutely massive! 👏🎉

I would love to see Vivaldi doing more pro active work on implementing features that protect the user from fingerprinting and other privacy invading techniques. And I bet this would bring in new users and probably even convert Brave users.

And if they already do this why is there no blog posts or articles mentioning what they are doing and how they improve the default Chromium experience?

Last week i used Vivaldi exclusively on Windows,Linux and iPhone and this week spent back on Brave and while i like their (Braves) privacy features and believe they offer more in this regard than Vivaldi their crypto focus is a big annoyance of mine.

So today went back to Vivaldi and one major annoyance really is how adress url autocomplete works so the upcoming 6.2 update should adress that and can´t come soon enough.

And no reader view on iPhone yet in Beta. Submitted a FR for it through TF feedback but im assuming it will come at some point. Oh, and sync of search engines does not work but hopefully it is also being worked on.
But Vivaldi on iPhone is shaping up quite nicely

And secondly why is there no merch shop in EU? 😅 I´d be happy to support with a purchase. But shipping and tax to get anything into Sweden from USA is a bit too much for me. Your HQ is next door (country wise) so not having shipping within EU is a bummer.

Vivaldi browser -vs- Firefox Android

Once more, another chromium type browser, and once more, only Mozilla Firefox can block ads and trackers.

Again, see for yourself: https://d3ward.github.io/toolz/adblock.html

This test only covers some of the simplest and basics of ads and trackers. Nothing as sophisticated as you may find out in the wild, and yet, neither Brave Browser or Vivaldi Browser, can block 100%, but Mozilla Firefox does.

The whole reason people do not just use Google Chrome is because they want an alternative. Many of them don't know they're using Chromium, but still desire an alternative.

That need for an alternative is what Brave Browser and Vivaldi Browser, provides. That has always been their opportunity.

If they were ever going to leave Google, they should do so now, before Google's so-called proposed standard is standardized.

Brave Browser and Vivaldi Browser could have:

1) Forked Mozilla Firefox (Gecko)

2) Forked Apple WebKit

3) Made their own browser engine.

They did none of that. They picked Google with Chromium (Blink).

Google, the company that collects user data and makes money selling ad space.

Google, the company not known for transparency.

You had 2 open source projects to pick from or gone your own, but you picked, Google.

You made the wrong choice!

Does de-googling mean I should give up #vivaldibrowser because it's based on #Chromium? I like it's feature set and it seems to block ads better on mobile than #Firefox (or maybe I'm missing a setting).

This transition won't be an easy one, but I don't like what
#Google is trying to do with this Web Environment Integrity API. https://www.theregister.com/2023/07/25/google_web_environment_integrity/

The good news is
#Mozilla has voiced their opposition to it: https://github.com/mozilla/standards-positions/issues/852#issuecomment-1648820747

To be honest, yeah Firefox is much better sure, BUT I don't recommend to use it.

There's two - and only two - options for you to pick.

1. Use
#vivaldibrowser
2. Use
#librewolf .

You can get Librewolf at
https://librewolf.net and Vivaldi at https://vivaldi.com .

They both
#privacy focused and those browsers are only the ones I can recommend. I don't recommend Brave, I don't recommend Waterfox (however you can use WF if you want to, since it's not owned by System1 anymore!), but I strongly recommend to use only these browsers - Vivaldi and Librewolf - since those are the ones that aren't betrayers and really care about your privacy.

EDIT: Didn't expect so much negative reaction from so much people. Look, OK, I can recommend ungoogled chromium if you want to, FIIIINE!

Look, in my opinion, Vivaldi and Librewolf are the best for me personally. This is my best setup for myself.

If you dislike Vivaldi so much (you shouldn't BTW, but OK!) , how about to try Librewolf?

@Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net has their own #Mastodon #Fediverse instance. Hopefully this will increase adoption.

I'd like the option to import another instance to the
#VivaldiBrowser, although the current implementation is apparently just a standard sidebar page.

Hopefully they'll include an actual client in the browser like they've done with mail and calendar. Considering the various software implementations of
#ActivityPub that could be challenging.

But hey, at least we can have the side bar!

Did #VivaldiBrowser #Linux users ever want more than the two streams we offer by default (stable and snapshot)?

Maybe you want to run mail on its own or pretest the latest snapshot before upgrading your main profile?

It is possible. I thought about writing about it but not sure if anyone would care besides a tester like me.

Hey Vivaldi browser fans,

I do a fair amount of accessibility testing and that involves using the Tab key to navigate through links and input fields within webpages.

I can't seem to set the settings to do that in the same way it works in other browsers. If this is possible and if you have this working please share!

I can change the spatial nav keys but that's an entirely different system (which is fine, but I would prefer use a standard method for testing)

Tabs stacks are a wonderful thing, letting you group up related tabs and clear up space on the tab bar.

In #VivaldiBrowser there are three options for how it's presented Accordion, Two-level and Compact, working whether you have your tabs horizontally or vertically. See which suits you the most.

Hi @tips! Would you mind reading about my issue described here: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/84439/tab-stacks-not-working and suggest a solution, if there is one? I'd be really grateful.

@nathan what I like about the #VivaldiBrowser is the side panel to the left. You can make anything a widget there including a web page. There are widgets for mail calendar to do's. It has an RSS reader. It's my personal browser now but I still use Chrome as my developing browser because of the extensions. Of course I haven't checked with what all Vivaldi has for developing.

@jon @Vivaldi That's great news. I didn't know that #VivaldiBrowser runs on #AndroidTV. Unfortunately I only have a #WebOS TV by #LG and I pretty much hate the build-in #browser. It's so sluggish and the possibilities are pretty limited. I wish there would be Vivaldi for WebOS as well. :vivaldi_gray: 📺
