Ana Iglesias Molina is now giving the yearly progress update of the @w3c Knowledge Graph Construction Community Group at the @eswc_conf #KnowledgeGraph Construction Workshop. The next generation of #RML is being developed and presented!

@ontopic @eswc_conf Really interesting keynote around #virtualization vs #materialization in #KnowledgeGraphs and a wishlist for the next generation specification of R2RML, interesting for the @w3c Knowledge Graph Construction Community Group!

@atomicpoet Here's @evan@cosocial.ca's post saying that the #W3C #SocialWG (the custodians of #ActivityPub) is excited about #Meta moving into the #Fediverse and "we're here to help". That sure looks like "working with Facebook" to me.
https://cosocial.ca/@evan/110401846007395312
But okay, let me rephrase the question in your terms. What are the other examples where #Meta has "conceded" like this and it's worked out well for the communities they've "conceded" to?

@evan I would like for you to know that my bedtime reading tonight is the #ActivityPub spec. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I'd be reading a #W3C recommendation before bed but here we are.
Dry reading it is not.
Just had my very first contribution to a W3C spec included.
It's a clarification of subdomain depth for the `include_subdomains` directive in NEL: https://w3c.github.io/network-error-logging/#the-include_subdomains-member
Absolutely tiny, but they all count, right? 🤣

New Success Criteria in WCAG 2.2
Update — May 2023: This article has been updated to include changes in the latest Editor’s Draft, dated 3 May 2023.
The final Recommendation is expected to be completed and published in Q3 2023 (between July and September).

Have you ever read or checked out a web specification? It is crazy how many things exists so many people use everyday and has such a hugh impact without we knowing about it.
Example: I learned today about the WasmGC specification https://github.com/WebAssembly/gc

@brunty OK, I'll admit, I love #XML too: I wrote two books about it and was a member of the original #W3C XML WG and chaired the XML Core WG afterwards. 🙂
But all the same, when I was chairing XML 2007, I did invite @douglascrockford to give a closing keynote about #JSON, just to remind the aficionados that there was more to #markup than XML.
New #W3C draft: "Secure Payment Confirmation".
This will let the browser authenticate you (via Face ID, Windows Hello, etc.), which eliminates the need to redirect to a 3D Secure website. You will only need to register your device on your bank's website beforehand.
#Stripe already ran an experiment with SPC and achieved an 8% better conversion rate. All of this without compromising fraud protection.
Bye, bye 3D secure screens! (still have to wait a few years for all browsers to support it 😅).

For other #ActivityPub questions the #SocialHub is a good place: https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks
Since #Meta is backing #ActivityPub i'm pretty optimistic about the future of the #Protocol. It's not about #Mastodon in the end but making sure #W3C open standards are successful.
If it takes a corporation like Meta to make ActivityPub palatable to the masses i'm all for backing that effort. I just want to make sure the bastards don't win this round with 100% control over the tech stack.

"CERN’s decision to provide unencumbered access to the basic Web protocols and software developed there was instrumental to the success of the technical work done at the World Wide Web Consortium. The decision to base the Web on royalty-free standards from the beginning has been vital to its success."
@solblack
C'est en 2014 que JSON-LD est devenu un standard du #W3C :
https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/JSON-LD
While the interweb is arguably ~33 years old, if you are reading this text blurb using web technology, it might be worth reflecting on CERN putting World Wide Web (WWW) software into the public domain 30 years ago. Also, late next year will be the 30 year anniversary of the founding of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). #history #web #cern #w3c https://home.cern/science/computing/birth-web
Thanks for writing an interesting article on this important anniversary! 👍
I wrote one on the #w3c blog which lists and explains some of the key technical standards that made the Web the essential medium it is today:

#TIL about #WebMonetization, which according to their website;
"... is being proposed as a #W3C standard at the Web Platform Incubator Community Group":
"En demokratisk #debatt som kontrolleras och modereras av professionella #medier är lösningen på dagens fullständigt avskyvärda diskussionskultur på nätet. Med #ActivityPub har vi tekniska plug-and-play-lösningar."

ActivityPub är en öppen rekommendation av #W3C - @w3c som kan göra Internet bättre på det sätt det var menat!
My weekend task: read through the history of the #W3C's Distributed Identifier working group, grok it thoroughly, and figure out what the hell happened.
If anyone wants to supply framing or references to help me understand, I beg you, please do.
Having a portable DID that can migrate within the Fediverse, even if your old #Mastodon server is suddenly dead or hostile, seems like a fundamental requirement for sustainable #decentralization

Patrick Stickler, in the #w3c #RDF core working group, 2002-09-25, a time when search engines were not the only imaginable option for organizing the web:
I think it all boils down to whether we want inference engines to function more like Google, with potentially lots of false positives which might be useful, or like a reasoning engine where a positive result can be trusted (insofar as the quality and integrity of the knowledge base) and the inability to obtain a result simply means more information is needed.
I myself have always presumed that SW agents would exhibit the latter behavior. Otherwise, where would we find any semblence of trust or authenticity by which non-trivial decisions would be made by SW agents on our behalf. If we are to have a future where we deploy SW agents to do real-world tasks for us, I'd prefer that they wouldn't be guessing.

I advocate 2 locations as place-to-be for helping #ActivityPub and #Fediverse move forward.
Yes, the #W3C #SWICG for the AS/AP open standards tracks and mailing list discussion. But also the #SocialHub where #FEP's are discussed and a huge archive of dev discussion is collected.
For years they went hand in hand re:collab, then the SWICG turned inactive while the forum did not. Now looks like there's some split happening.
Status: designing a survey for the members of the #W3C #SWICG, the closest that #ActivityPub standardization has to a home at this time.
Trying to tickle out both what people think is most important/urgent to do, and where they are actually willing/able to do work.
Updated #Fediverse #wish list based on recent discussions in the #W3C #SWICG and at #FediForum about #ActivityPub and related.
Fortunately nobody is going to run out of work any year soon 🙂

We had 46 people in the session on the future of #ActivityPub and related, hosted by #Fediforum and the #W3C Social Web Incubator Community Group (SWICG). I'm told that was the largest SWICG meeting in history.
And so many implementors were there and spoke up what they need! There's real momemtum.

To make some definite progress, I've advance-called a session at next week's #FediForum on the future of #ActivityPub standardization and related subjects. It will take place:
10am pacific time next Wednesday, March 29, online, and be joint with the #W3C's Social Web Interest Community Group -- the informal successor of the standards group.
