I have gotta say, this year’s #wwdc was my first one as a rookie wannabe #indiedev and it has been quite a rollercoaster.
- Got to release a first version of a very simple app just before dub dub.
- Followed the announcement at #wwdc2023 with the dev eyes this time and felt so overwhelmed with all the things presented I had to step away from my projects for some time.
- I then came back to it and worked on small improvements, one step at a time.
What did I (re)discover? Learning is (1/2)
@bauser @xdej @SarraceniaWilds @rysiek It’s a general problem with hashtags, really. Though geography presents some unique challenges.
There are other examples. One I came across with a couple months ago was using hashtags to keep up with news out of Apple’s developer’s conference.
We had people using some combination #WWDC, #WWDC23, and #WWDC2023. To get everyone talking together you had to pollute your post with ALL of those tags. It was a mess.

In Beta 3 von iOS 17 und MacOS Sonoma gibt es zwei neue deutsche Siri-Stimmen. Sie klingen beide nicht schlecht, wobei die neue weiblich gelesene Stimme sehr jung klingt, fast wie ein Teenager oder eine sehr junge Frau.

SwiftData and MapKit for SwiftUI for iOS 17 (beta) could not have come at a better time! Working on a new idea for an app and these new features make development way easier.

1. You can’t count on people to use them consistently.
2. You can’t count on people to use the same ones for a given topic (#WWDC? #WWDC23? #WWDC2023?)
3. They take up valuable characters in post length.
4. Some niche topics won’t ever have keywords. Sure, people MIGHT remember to tag every post regarding SwiftUI, but will they tag every method call they discuss as well?

Lipiec to początek sezonu ogórkowego, jednak w ostatnim czasie wydarzyło się tak wiele rzeczy, jakby to był zupełnie inny okres w roku. Po pierwsze jesteśmy po WWDC 2023. W numerze obszernie piszemy o nowościach, które zostały tam zaprezentowane. Skupiamy się na sprzęcie, bo, zaskakująco dla tej konferencji, było go bardzo dużo.
Oczywiście zaprezentowane zostały najnowsze odsłony systemów, ale pierwsze skrzypce niewątpliwie grał sprzęt. W szczególności jeden, one more thing, czyli Vision Pro. Potwierdziły się plotki i Tim Cook zaprezentował gogle do rozszerzonej rzeczywistości z nadgryzionym jabłkiem. Niewątpliwie namieszają one na rynku. Z prezentacji oraz udostępnionej wersji beta systemu visionOS można wywnioskować, jak niesamowite możliwości będą miały te gogle. Mnie osobiście zastanawia, a nawet martwi, jedna kwestia – widząc jak iPhone i iPad zmieniły rynek, przywiązały do siebie użytkowników, a na końcu zmieniły ich przyzwyczajenia i zachowanie, to co się stanie, gdy wszyscy będą siedzieć w Vision Pro? Trochę przerażająca wizja, ale to rozważania na zupełnie inną okazję.
WWDC to oczywiście nie jedyny temat lipcowego wydania. Ze swojej strony polecam poczytać o tematach rowerowych, świetnych samochodach oraz super audio.

I have a dumb question regarding #swiftdata Whenever I want to pass an object to a view in order to show details for instance, I get an error saying that the object's type does not conform to protocol 'PersistentModel'.
This happens even when using the default class created upon project creation. What am I missing?
I see Apple putting some love and care into their documentation. So glad to see improvements across their docs. One good example is:

Once we arrived at Steve Jobs Theater, we were directed to circle the cylindrical space to view the 15” Air. Very few cared to stop and look.
Mac Pro models were further along, but by the time we got to them, the staff were just waving people over to the stairs, assuming they didn’t want to see the Pro.
So, down we went the showroom.

The crowd control are Apple Store retail staff from around the country (world?). They were, to a one, the most genuinely cheerful, enthusiastic people I’ve ever encountered.
They did their jobs exceptionally well. Being that cheerful might actually kill me.
The last photo is looking at the entrance we’d just passed. The lushness of the growth at Apple Park is amazing. (Recent rains helped.)
Just past this was a security check.
Two guys just walked up and introduced themselves and we had a great conversation. I wish I’d had that ability at that age. This is a really nice community #WWDC2023

Outside of Tim Cook, the only other senior #Apple executive who is relatively well known to the general public is Craig Federighi. I can very much see him becoming Apple's next CEO. He has the long tenure, the respect of the entire company and broader tech industry, and he's a great communicator. Finally, Craig very well captures the Apple ethos. I really can't see Jeff Williams being the next CEO even though he's Apple's COO. #WWDC2023
Bank of America estimating Apple will sell 1.5M VisionPro’s in year one. Over $5 billion if it happens. Apple sold 1.4M iPhones is year one bringing in $630 million.

Regarding the elephant in the room text entry, since I'm an old Palm OS user, one decent solution might be a finger-tracked version of Palm (Access) Graffiti / Graffiti 2 (based on Jot). I was pretty good at it with a stylus. Using a finger would most likely be even faster _____👇

Ok, I had a look at the #VisionPro thing from #wwdc #wwdc2023.
Maybe I'm showing my age, but I got massive Black Mirror "how would you actually wear that and not feel like an idiot?" vibes. Didn't see anything particularly novel in VR/AR terms, but did see *all of the creepy things* (CGI-ing my face in facetime calls?!, showing my eyes through the goggles for IRL interaction?!)
