Anyone else spot the #WWDC23 keynote mention of "installable" #webapps coming to Safari?
WOW! It's clear that #WebTechForApps is a significant and growing trend (#MiniApps #PWA #WebRTC #WebXR, #Solid ...).
Between app fatigue, developer frustrations, bloated devices, update chaos, notification floods, and new access channels (XR), are we reaching an inflection point in the mobile app dynamic?

What’s the best way to keep a video and data streams in sync in a browser? 🤷♂️
#WebRTC looks like a good fit but I have not yet found a way to attach frame IDs, timestamps or similar.
I also thought about multiplexing both streams via #WebTransport but don’t know how to feed the stream back as Insertable Streams for MediaStreamTrack API is still experimental in #Firefox
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Insertable_Streams_for_MediaStreamTrack_API

A reminder for all you #OpenMedia #webrtc #voip folks... CommCon is happening 19-23 June in the UK just outside of Blackburn!
We've got the best speakers when it comes to CDN, Anycast, WebRTC, VoIP, Open Media, 5G.
CommCon is residential so the price includes your accomodation, meals and evening activities.
Now that VP9/AV1 simulcast and AV1/SVC both work as expected, I took some time to write a post that summarizes what I needed to do: hopefully it will be interesting enough for others that want to try and do the same thing (feedback welcome of course!) #webrtc

Big thanks to all the lovely folks who joined us for dinner at The Smith in the East Village, NYC, last night to discuss the future of live video applications.

I played a bit with the new support in Chrome for VP9/AV1 simulcast, and so prepared a small PR that got them working in #janus. The main question now being, though: how do we demux temporal layers when VP9/AV1 are in use? Manually, from the payload description, as in VP8? Or via some RTP extension? 🤔 Waiting to learn more! #webrtc

Several days ago, the telecoms regulator in the the #Philippines extended the mandatory #SimRegistration period for another 90 days, ending in July.
While researching on the feasibility of cutting my phone, I stumbled on #WebCall for P2P #webRTC voice calls. An interesting option, when you don't/can't give away your number, and still make/receive voice calls over the Internet, without a SIM.
Have you tried it? Calls quality is decent, and caller registration is optional.

We've had some great submissions to our #CFP for CommCon 2023 so far. Just over two weeks left to submit. Nothing is too weird or specific, get sending! We've opened up to anything media related this year - not just real-time comms! #webrtc #openmedia

I just pushed a draft PR that adds noise reduction support to the AudioBridge plugin in the #Janus #webrtc server via #RNNoise. It still doesn't 100% work all the time, due to the fixed number of samples RNNoise expects (and that I'm figuring out how to work around) that has different implications depending on the sampling rate in use in a room, but it's definitely a good first step I think!

I did check the site out that you suggested, thank you.
Everything looks good there, even the #WebRTC leaks, so I don't know if #ProtonVPN is also doing something about that.
So, while I am on my #VPN nothing is leaking, so it must be at start up or something else.

I spent some time refactoring the SVC support we have in #Janus, especially in the #VideoRoom #SFU plugin, as it was a bit "wooden" and limited before. This remains VP9-SVC only, at the moment (since I hate the AV1 dependency descriptor so much 😁), but it's there to be extended once we want to tackle different SVC approaches as well #webrtc

I had a packed room for my talk at #fosdem which is fantastic. Lovely to be back talking in front of a packed room again. Huge interest in WHIP and WHEP it seems :) congrats @murillo !
My slides can be found over on the fosdem website https://fosdem.org/2023/schedule/event/om_webrtc/

@steely_glint This particular toot, though it's sadly a regular refrain / rant if mine, was motivated by trying to watch your #fosdem2022 talk on 'The future of #WebRTC'. I'm sure it was very interesting if I'd been able to stick with it longer, but listening to someone read aloud wasn't fun at school either and makes it too easy to miss the actual additional information.
Maybe another time I'll make it!

We need to read and think about the FTC's ruling on Epic Game's fortnite game.
Their on-by-default audio was specifically called out as a harm to children.
Just 'cos we can - it doesn't mean we should.
For any #wayland users out there stuggling with #screensharing over #WebRTC services and #pipewire (e.g. https://meet.jit.si and others)...
Firefox will crash until this bug is squished:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1790496
However, in #chromium (and presumably #chrome too if you like giving data to google), you can set this flag:
chrome://flags/#enable-webrtc-pipewire-capture
And then it works! Without that flag, Chromium works but only allows sharing a limited choice of windows.
An #introduction!
Hi all, I'm Mike!
I'm a software engineer with a #DevOps / #SRE background working in the #video streaming space. Specifically, I've been working with #WebRTC and other "ultra low latency" technologies. I mostly write #golang at work these days.
I'm living the #RemoteLife and work for a Bay Area company from the woods of #Michigan.
In my free time I enjoy #hiking with my family, writing #rustlang, and playing with radio waves.
Thanks Nóva for #hachyderm!
Hey Fediverse! I just released #dudirekta, an easy-to-use #RPC framework for #Go that allows exposing functions on both the client and server. This allows the server to call functions on the client instead of just the other way around, which makes it a good fit for implementing duplex streams, #P2P systems or replacing message-based protocols with something more robust. Its transport independent, you can use TCP, WebSockets or even #WebRTC to connect peers!
As the end of this year is approaching, I thought it would be good to summarize what is the latest state of #Wayland screen sharing in #webrtc and #chromium and wrote a blog post about it at https://jgrulich.cz/2022/11/21/webrtc-chromium-year-end-report/. In short, we are almost there 🙂.
I've seen a few people wonder what could happen to #Spaces, now that #Twitter seems to be in a downward spiral, and whether it could possibly be replaced using #FOSS. As such, I thought I'd write a blog post on how you can use #Janus as a #webrtc server to do exactly that, and build some sort of Spaces/Reddit Talk/Clubhouse clone with a scalable audio approach. Quite generic and mostly focused on scalability (not the app itself), but hopefully interesting nevertheless!

Worked on the Spaces clone a bit today. #WebRTC looks like it will do. I’m thinking an MVP is something like: oAuth to your home mastodon, create a “space” (I want different nouns… maybe “circle”? “soapbox”?), get a unique link. Host can designate others to speak. Anything else?
I figured I better redo my #introduction as I've just moved over to this instance.

Anyone know if the latest Meta Browser on the #Quest can do #WebBluetooth yet? I've been thinking of building a smartphone-based input system and pairing over Bluetooth seems like it'd be a better UX and lower latency than doing it over WiFi.
Though, I suppose #WebRTC should work. Two devices on the same network should always get a P2P connection, regardless of NAT, right?
Right?
#introduction, #introductions or whatever - it's that time, I guess!
Hi, I'm JeDaYoshi, also known as Nay on some places like Libera.Chat. A fellow Venezuelan
Internet person (ES/EN OK!)
I am someone who does quite a few things, I guess!
- I do programming for a living, having a preference to open-source whether possible (mainly #JavaScript, but also dabbling on #Rust and #Golang lately)
- I like screaming to #WebRTC and virtual machines - I have an open-source project that combines both! (https://cryb.app)
- I do networking as a hobby with friends, under AS204446
- I also scream to servers and computers in general. Linux is fun btw
- And outside of that, I also like games a bunch! #RPG games in particular are nice!
- And oh god why am I using so many hashtags I'm dying
I suck at introductions, but I'm interested on getting to know people with similar interests around, especially since I've been out of places like the birb site for a while. I've been here for a while, just.. never really used it, I guess? Might want to change that :P
Hi all!
I'm a #webrtc developer from Italy: I created and maintain the open source Janus WebRTC Server as part of my daily job. But open source is a big part of my life, not just work!
For fun, I like to create music using only #FOSS tools (you can listen to my work on Bandcamp, Soundcloud and more). Besides, I recently started working on a new open source point and click adventure engine called KIAVC (Neapolitan translation of SCUMM 😁 )
