A lot of #webdesign isn't about creating the most efficient solution, but about solutions that show the website owner put effort into presenting their ideas/products/whatevers. More effort (custom images, styles, transitions) gives legitimacy. But it's not the only way. To some audiences, just copying the #content to a Word doc and exporting it as PDF gives content more legitimacy!

I don't really like that. It feels like cheating. And there's no fun in creating PDFs from Word docs. But on the other hand, a lot of web design isn't really about usability. It's more like elaborate store sign painting. Showing off how awesome a #brand is.

Knowing what media and genres your audience consider legit can save you a lot of time you can then put into more user-centered work.

What other shortcuts to legitimacy are underappreciated by #designers?

In a Monday that was far from fun, which presented unexpected challenges and offered a little too much unbidden feedback, there was one bright and happy 25 minute meeting. My co-working space colleague, friend and web host Imelda invited me to rethink & reframe a long-overdue overhaul of my website in terms of a more sustainable/lower carbon footprint approach. Excited to be a guinea pig and see where this leads.
