Good morning, friends and happy #WedsNeigh !
Please meet Ranger, the very handsome Oldenberg horse who I got to visit at the Pima County Fair several years ago. Ranger won [*one <--edit] many ribbons for his girl.
It's been years since I've gotten to meet, pat, hug, brush, clean the feet of, and otherwise get my horsie fix. I need to get a fix sometime sooooon
🌧️ 🐴 Getting in the tail end of #Wedsneigh. 😆 Today we celebrate ACTUAL #RAIN with a photo of Her Muddy Highness posing (Not!... actually she's peeved about why the rest of her supper is late) with one of the brightest little rainbow pieces I've ever seen. The animals & house are all a complete mess and I am delighted!
🛠️It's late in the day for #Wedsneigh, but I'm going to post this anyway, because I haven't done one in a while, and also because I'm extremely proud of this run-in shed, which was built with about 70% "woman-power" labor (💪) by those of us in the neighborhood who were learning to DIY as we went.

Hey new friends here on this app I'm enjoying my delightfully curated timeline and wanted to be sure you know about
this deserves a re-post for #wedsNeigh https://hcommons.social/@vianovatraining/110426794971318994
Here's a little treat for all you #asstodon lovers:
Beautiful Estrella and Mercedes being reunited with their friends Nado and Esme in their "summer residence", a former military training ground turned nature reserve.
As it’s now #Wedsneigh
Yesterday, I arrived home & was surprised to be met by Cutie (LB’s name for her). Cutie came to meet me instead of Blossom. Obvs Bloss’ watch was slow, as she suddenly appeared & trotted up ❤️
Equestrians are a diverse bunch, and we’re really glad to see the new collection of riding wear from https://muirneen.com. They’re looking for models, too. Please boost! These are really cute tops (in a real range of sizes) even if you’re not a rider. #WedsNeigh #horsesofMastodon #diversity #horses #clothing
We often do things to our pets and domestic animals without asking first, because they need care of course! Grooming and fly spray, for instance, are important for the health of horses. Did you know that animals are quite good at communicating their consent to things if we take a little time to establish a way for them to tell us? Here Taz, our rescued feral mare, presses her muzzle gently into Meredith’s hand to say it’s ok to drag a brush through her long tangled mane. If Taz stops pressing, Meredith will stop brushing until Taz lets her know it’s ok to start again by pressing. Meredith took a little extra time to come to this agreement with Taz, using the behavior of face-touching which Taz already knew and liked. It pays off in trust and consent to something that might otherwise feel unpleasant and scary. #wedsneigh #horses #positiveReinforcement #animalCommunication
For #Wedsneigh, a rather blurry shot of the crew when turned loose on the acreage to stretch their legs. For a few min now & then, it's quite nice to be where the law is still "open range."😎🐎 At some point there will be more pasture available, but for the moment, supervised cavorting has to do!
For #Wedsneigh ... after months of bickering & jostling, the mares are suddenly friends. Never underestimate spring hormones, maybe. 🤨🤷♀️
The bay is 3yr-old Farhana. The chestnut is 19yr-old Matinee.
We went to the #FEIWorldCup finals a week ago in #Omaha. Proud of our US riders, Anna Buffini and her mare Davinia la Douce, 9th in Grand Prix #dressage and Hunter Holloway and her mare Pepita Con Spita, 8th in #showjumping. This is TOP 10 IN THE WORLD. HUGE congratulations! #wedsneigh #horsesofmastodon #LadiesRule #horses
There’s something deeply spiritual about a bond with a horse. I could stand with her for hours watching the wind tease her mane. Her blood is ancient, as deep to this land as the rivers and mountains she is named for. I’m so blessed to be with her. #Horses #HorsesOfMastodon #Mustang #wedsneigh #peaceful
For #WedsNeigh - a few years ago, I was walking from campus to a nearby shop to get a bevvie before class, and who should I find unloading on a nearby sidestreet but...
The Budweiser Clydesdales!!
I watched them unload and tack up as long as I could before running to class. Then after class I returned and got to see them get untacked and loaded.
It was me and like 100 12 yo girls and after all the kiddos got their souveniers, I got this ribbon that had just come off Clydesdale Fez.
Saint Larry (27 when pic taken) getting blinged out at our Kids Day a few years ago. He loved kids and being painted, especially getting the carrots in payment for being an art canvas #wedsneigh
For #Wedsneigh plz enjoy or critique this photo of a young rider and her beautiful horse at the part of the class where they make you 'drop your irons' and post the trot.
I don't know if they're doing it well or poorly, I only know that they're doing it better than I ever could - and this horsie was working so hard for his rider
Friston and the Barbies
On our little farm in the #Dordogne , #France, we had lots of rare breeds of chickens including these lovely little Barbu D'Anvers, a Belgian bantam breed, full of personality. We called the two original hens the Barbies and the rooster was called Ken. So with Friston (newly born on this post: https://halifaxsocial.ca/@StevenKennard/110078698128661307) we have a lot of Kens.
Enjoy your Sunday everyone.
Victoire and Friston
Two of our Hafflinger horses from when we lived in the Dordogne region of France in the 80s. Friston was newly born. These are such great little horses. Late (or early) for #Wedsneigh
Enjoy the day, friends.

Matinee wants the world to know that supper being late on #Wedsneigh is entirely unacceptable. The Princess has spoken. (So there....)
Oops. I missed #Wedsneigh, so here's a belated pic of The Princess herself in this current moment--getting a soup supper with a warm molasses-water chaser standing by. I remain colic paranoid in cold weather for fear they won't drink enough. 😬😳😵💫
I missed posting for #Wedsneigh today. It's been some kind of day, so I thought this old favorite might be appropriate instead of a photo.
Hope everyone has a wonderful evening.

#Today for #Wedsneigh, here's a far-back blast from my past: the most incredible, talented mare I ever owned, Lass, and my forever-missed BFF, Sherry. Picture from around 2001 or 2002, my previous life. I hope they are together somewhere on the other side.
Treasure your friends, equine & human, while you have them. It won't last forever. 😕 😢
For #wedsneigh here's a photo of my grandpa on the back of a Shetland in 1934 or so, and him on the back of my (extremely sassy) AQH in 1984, that he got for me. I had her for two wonderful years, then we moved. I've missed having a horse ever since. :)
Grandpa passed away too early, and I still miss him very much. A few years ago I was having a terrible day and to comfort me, my Aunt said I reminded her of him so much. I cried. :) It was the best compliment I've ever received. ❤️ #horses
