Please meet Ranger, the very handsome Oldenberg horse who I got to visit at the Pima County Fair several years ago. Ranger won [*one <--edit] many ribbons for his girl.
It's been years since I've gotten to meet, pat, hug, brush, clean the feet of, and otherwise get my horsie fix. I need to get a fix sometime sooooon

Yesterday, I arrived home & was surprised to be met by Cutie (LB’s name for her). Cutie came to meet me instead of Blossom. Obvs Bloss’ watch was slow, as she suddenly appeared & trotted up ❤️
The farrier is here! What a big relief that he showed up on time with no rescheduling. Now I know that my big guy is taking care of for another 8 weeks.

We often do things to our pets and domestic animals without asking first, because they need care of course! Grooming and fly spray, for instance, are important for the health of horses. Did you know that animals are quite good at communicating their consent to things if we take a little time to establish a way for them to tell us? Here Taz, our rescued feral mare, presses her muzzle gently into Meredith’s hand to say it’s ok to drag a brush through her long tangled mane. If Taz stops pressing, Meredith will stop brushing until Taz lets her know it’s ok to start again by pressing. Meredith took a little extra time to come to this agreement with Taz, using the behavior of face-touching which Taz already knew and liked. It pays off in trust and consent to something that might otherwise feel unpleasant and scary. #wedsneigh #horses #positiveReinforcement #animalCommunication

The Budweiser Clydesdales!!
I watched them unload and tack up as long as I could before running to class. Then after class I returned and got to see them get untacked and loaded.
It was me and like 100 12 yo girls and after all the kiddos got their souveniers, I got this ribbon that had just come off Clydesdale Fez.

Friston and the Barbies
On our little farm in the #Dordogne , #France, we had lots of rare breeds of chickens including these lovely little Barbu D'Anvers, a Belgian bantam breed, full of personality. We called the two original hens the Barbies and the rooster was called Ken. So with Friston (newly born on this post: https://halifaxsocial.ca/@StevenKennard/110078698128661307) we have a lot of Kens.

For #wedsneigh here's a photo of my grandpa on the back of a Shetland in 1934 or so, and him on the back of my (extremely sassy) AQH in 1984, that he got for me. I had her for two wonderful years, then we moved. I've missed having a horse ever since. :)
Grandpa passed away too early, and I still miss him very much. A few years ago I was having a terrible day and to comfort me, my Aunt said I reminded her of him so much. I cried. :) It was the best compliment I've ever received. ❤️ #horses
