after daily experiences with the many children, we fled some km further into what seemed to us a quiet area. we needed time to process all the experiences here in #guinea and #westafrica. we rested, red each other from the book 'the divide', #pushbikegirl's blog, phoned with family and friends and discussed a lot.
questions like:
why are we here? what were our expectations? what do we want? what are our next steps?
In 2013, the worst #Ebola #outbreak in history started in a small #village in southern #Guinea , eventually tearing through #WestAfrica . By the time it ended in 2016, more than 11,300 people were dead. #Scientists have #linked this and other Ebola outbreaks to specific #patterns of #deforestation .

In general the older African states follow the more temperate rainfall zones across the middle of the continent and in the highlands in East Africa, where higher population densities could be supported. But the savannah states definitely buck that trend #history #westafrica #africanpolitics

The authorship – and therefore origins – of jollof rice (called ceebu jën in Senegal according to the Wolof spelling) is the subject of a spicy debate between West African nations. In particular, Senegalese, Nigerians and Ghanaians claim ownership. And each believes their recipe surpasses all others.

I am an associate professor in #politicalscience at the University of California, Berkeley. I help lead #CEGA and #ESOC. I study #internationalintervention #civilconflict and, recently, #policing in comparative perspective. I am often working in #LatinAmerica #WestAfrica and the #Pacific.

I teach #WorldLiterature and #composition at a public college in the southeastern US. My current work examines how #comics artists from #WestAfrica and #CentralAfrica navigate #print and #digital realms in their work, and I’ve researched comics in #Senegal in particular. I also have a book from 2014 about portrayals of migration in #Senegalese texts.
