“The stormy days of late #spring, when winter seems to have suddenly come back to life, were until recently called the Borrowed (or Borrowing) Days or the Skinning Days in the west of #Ireland. Legend had it that the Glas Ghaibhleann, the cow of abundance—also called the Old Brindled Cow or the Gray Cow—defied winter by claiming it could not kill her, but winter stole several days from spring and skinned the cow in retaliation.”

Yet another reason Gen X’ers are the best generation. We still send each other postcards. The joy of opening my letter box and finding a lovely part of the world in it and knowing that friends are having a lovely time in it. It makes me smile out loud.

The postcard that just turned up in my letter box. ‘Ireland’s wild Atlantic Coastal Route’. The left side is a map of Ireland in which they have just chopped off the midlands and the East Coast. There are no jackeens blighting this isle. It’s just Donegal to Cork, no messing, straight down the west coast. To the right of the map, a gallery of photos of the fabulous sights on the Wild Atlantic Way. The coast. Mountains. Cliffs. An abbey. A big stone Celtic Cross. A big stone St. Patrick, blessing it all. And best of all, two puffins.
