Beyond the #WildFlower #meadow at #Rhug lies the #orchard

I say orchard. There are 2 plum trees 'Early Prolific' & 'Late Victoria', 2 cherries 'Sunburst' & 'Merton Glory', Blackcurrants, Redcurrants and a Chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa), which replaced the poor Saskatoon (Amelanchier alnifolia) as it was way too dry.

In the orchard is stands of one of my favourite #NativePlants Bugle (Ajuga reptans). Makes a lovely ground cover in the right conditions.

At the back of the house at #Rhug is a fairly steeply sloping lawned area, with four fruit trees. They have suffered in the shade of the mighty conifers behind, so with some judicious removal of lower branches and some quite severe pruning, they have started to blossom again.

I am now trying to create a #WildFlower #meadow on the grass. Not helped by a 7 week drought in spring! 🙄

We got up #Today before the sun, drove beneath a weeping marine layer up into a foothill that lays south of where hwy 15 merges briefly with the flexed San Andreas Fault. This flower cares little for all of that. Google tells me it is an Aster. I know it's pink and grows in a wildland interface where the spirits cower. #BloomScrolling #WildFlower

The energy/pain scales were balanced enough today to get a tiny bit of #gardening done! Pulled a bunch of dead weeds and dessicated #wildflower stems from around a beautiful volunteer lantana that sprouted about two years ago, and is doing shockingly well given the amount of care it's received since (absolutely none). Came inside sweaty and covered in sticker burrs just in time for a glorious rainstorm. Not much to look at but I'm happy.

My favorite #wildflower is #FirePink. It pops up disturbed areas, along woodland trails and after burns (thus its name) in deciduous forests. It is endangered in certain areas.

Its chief pollinator is the Ruby-Throated Hummingbird.

Can’t miss the bright red/crimson/scarlet color of the 5-point star flower. Saw this one on a recent trip to the "Blue Ridge" mountains, in #BlowingRockNC. It has been seen all the way up in Canada.
