Schiffe dürfen sich mit Treibstoffen fahren lassen, die vermutlich keine Zulassung für Müllverbrennungsanlagen bekommen dürften – Sondermüll, besonders gefährlicher. Als die schöne Hafenstadt Hamburg die Luxuswohnungen in ihrer Hafencity errichten liess, mit diesem unbezahlbaren Blick auf das Wasser und sein lustiges Treiben, da keimte unter den sich ansiedelnden Millionären schnell der Wunsch nach Landstrom. Und da Hamburg nach Einschätzung eines Mannes mit schlechtem Erinnerungsvermögen “nicht gegen die Elbchaussee” regiert werden kann, wurde das von der Hamburg Port Authority auch zügig erledigt. Ja, das geht.
Daran musste ich denken, als ich nach dem Mittagessen wie immer am Beueler Rheinufer, der Sonnenseite, flanierte und ich dort ein Schubschiff erspähte, das angelegt hatte. Bei diesem Wasserstand kein Problem, und in meiner Beueler Anfangszeit Ende der 70er gab es dort auch noch Binnenhafenanlagen. Der kräftige Südwestwind sorgte für eine exzellente Schwermetall- und Feinstaubversorgung. Das nahegelegene Bahnhöfchen hat seine Terrasse schon mit Plastikplanen verrammelt. Und die Millionär*inn*e*n, die dort an der Uferseite Wohnungen besitzen, werden beim gegenwärtigen Wetter ja sicher ihr Rührei nicht auf dem Balkon einnehmen. Stellen Sie sich nur vor: Sie streuen kein bretonisches 1a-Meersalz, sondern eine mitteleuropäische Schwermetallmischung auf Ihr Ei. Schmeckts noch?
Beueler Luft wird nicht gemessen
Was mir dagegen bis heute nicht schmeckt, und daran haben auch die Grünen in Stadt- und Landesregierung bis heute nichts geändert, ist die Tatsache, dass Luftmessungen in Bonn ausschliesslich linksrheinisch stattfinden. Knapp 50% der Zeit herrscht in Bonn Westwind. Mit Südwest und Nordwest zusammen ist das eine fette Mehrheit. D.h. die Nahbereiche der Rheinschifffahrt werden in Bonn überhaupt nicht erfasst.
Wenn Beuel sich das gefallen lässt – anders als die Hafencity-Millionäre – dann ist es das auch selber schuld.

From the article:
1. #Wind and #solar stocks are declining due to higher costs of raw materials and slow supply response.
2. #EV chargers and copper mining, critical for the energy transition, face demand uncertainties and reluctance in investment, and
3. Despite government subsidies, #renewable energy sectors struggle with high costs and interest rates, indicating a slower and more expensive transition than anticipated.
This is the problem with entrusting matters of such dire importance to #capitalism -- especially in an age of resource scarcity. As I say in my pinned toot:
**Capitalism is little more than an ideological hangover produced from a time long past when low hanging fruit was everywhere for the taking and people thought it would never disappear.**
That quote has deeper context than most suspect. I penned it years ago shortly out of law school after taking a Wildlife Law class from the, now deceased, Professor Dale Goble. He literally wrote the book on the #EndangeredSpecies Act. There he introduced me to the reason species have, historically, been driven to #extinction -- new technology + capitalist opportunism:
Gun powder killed the mega-predators. Whales? Spear gun. Passenger pigeon? Net guns. I could go on. But then we invented the petroleum economy, and in the opportunistic race for economic growth the decline has quickened by means of the collateral damage caused by #habitat degradation. Which, brings me to my point ---
The ideology that is capitalism was built around gluts. It cannot exist without low hanging fruit to fuel the #consumption #orgy necessary to get past the bottleneck of widespread consumer adoption. We are seeing the problem in stark outline today. Without #monopoly in the resource extraction sector, generating the necessary momentum to survive the capitalist "valley of death" is nearly impossible.
I conclude, there must first be an ideological transition away from the hangover that is capitalism, if we ever want to transition sustainable green-energy. **The fruit is gone, folks. If we ever want it back, capitalism won’t take us there**

Flusswärmepumpen sind für Fernwärmenetze eine super Lösung nicht nur für das #Klima. Im Winter läuft das #Kohlekraftwerke in #Mannheim eh oft nur, weil viel Wärme nachgefragt wird... Strom ist dabei quasi Abfall. Eigentlich sollte das umgekehrt sein...
Wenn Strom gerade günstig ist, dann ist die #Wärmepumpe alternativlos. Wenn es besonders kalt ist und gleichzeitig wenig #Wind weht, dann steigt der Strompreis und es werden Kohle/H2-Kraftwerke hochgefahren. Deren Abwärme kann man dann in dieser Situation gut gebrauchen und unterstützen so die WP.

Ganz grob pi mal Daumen die Energiemenge im Jahr (wild zusammengeklaubt für DE):
1 GW #nuclear: 7900 GWh
1 GW #wind: 1700 GWh
1 GW #solar: 900 GWh
1 GW nuclear ~= 5GW wind ~= 9 GW solar.
Ein jährlicher Zubau von 392 GWp Solar entspräche also immer noch gut über 40 Kernreaktoren.
Und anders als bei AKWs mit Projektzeiten von im Schnitt 15 Jahren ist das Strom der jetzt bereit steht und tatsächlich was bewirkt.

A new report says that offshore wind could turn Atlantic Canada into an "energy superpower" akin to Texas with its oilfields.
The report says that Sable Island Bank off the coast of Nova Scotia alone could accommodate at least 1,000 offshore turbines, enough to generate about 70,000 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year – twice the amount of energy now used in the region.
