So you know how we have the idiot plot? "A plot kept in motion solely by the virtue of the fact that everyone involved is an idiot." Can we coin a new version of this criticism that I will affectionately refer to as a 'therapy plot' or a story that could be resolved in ten minutes if everyone involved saw a therapist. Most romances, Hallmark original movies, and daytime dramas fit this category.
People who comment with corrections and absolutely NO OTHER FEEDBACK are annoying. Yes, I fixed the typo/grammar /whatever. SO DO YOU LIKE IT NOW??? BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY, YOU DID NOT LIKE IT OTHERWISE YOU WOULD HAVE SAID YOU LIKED IT BUT YOU DID NOT. #writing #writingcommunity #anxiety I don't mind being alerted to typos and so on, but the lack of any sign that you *like what I wrote* makes anxiety brain tie itself in knots.

So lately I'll be reading something -- maybe a blog post, maybe a press release, etc. And I come across a sentence that seems perfectly acceptable but just immediately strikes me the wrong way. I feel it viscerally, like a punch in the gut.
When I've been able to ask the author about the sentence in question, it turns out they've had help from chat GPT and the sentence is AI-generated.
Has this happened to anyone else?? I think I must have a highly attuned AI-dar. 😂

So when we study how to do that we're tempted to find simple solutions. I think the simplistic tricks and hacks and formulas are actually really useful to get things started--but hopefully it grows into something much more meaningful, that can't be pinned down so easily.
I've been reflecting on some (amazing!) conversations here. I think we often get reductive in the way we talk about writing because what we're trying to say what is actually too complex to say another way. We're supposed to stumble a bit as we talk about stories and how we create them. We're crafting an experience that just can't be simplified into a few words.

I'm proud of this one. I used a reference, sure, but it's all handdrawn, inked, and shaded using pencil and charcoal by myself. For some reason charcoal was not blending the way I wanted to but ah well. I'm not sure I did the shading with the light and shadows as well as I could have. Also, forgive the shaky lines; my hand kept trembling.
I'm probably going to post this along with a chapter with the Book 3 fanfiction I'm doing for Legend of Korra.
In my fanfiction series: Shared Moments, Asami isn't a staunch capitalist. She's too focused on helping the people and using her wealth/company to do so. She doesn't care as much for profits and is okay with the company barely breaking even (as long as it's enough for her employees to get paid a living wage), and she's pro-union. I took her strong sense of justice and 'doing what's right' part of her personality that the show displayed and ramped it UP.
I also have her in Book 2, Book 2.5, and now Book 3 using Varrick's company (he gets convicted for funding terrorism and using Triads to make an attempt on Asami's life) to create an international public shipping infrastructure with an accountable to the public committee to oversee it. (Ambitious, yes! But we all know Asami doesn't do anything halfway!)
She's also in a relationship with Korra by the end of my Book 2 rewrite, though the end of Book 3 is going to be a painful ride. Book 3.5 will be painful too. But by Book 4, the two will have worked through their respective PTSD and bumps in their relationship.
I'm also writing Asami as autistic-coded, Korra as likely having ADHD, and Bolin as definitely having ADHD (since the way they're portrayed in the show -- they really fit those). Mako is really the only neurotypical on Team Avatar. LOL

I was just #writing something and as is usually my style I added in extra words and commas for the flow of the experience.
I think this is one of those less talked about aspects of ChatGPT and the like is that, lacking physical selves, they can't mull over the way words flow.
They don't consider the way words taste or move through the mouth. The little delightful extra oddities we add because they're playful.
In fact, the most charming thing about generated material is the glitches...
