Nie spodziewałem się za wiele rozpoczynając lekturę i może dlatego ta książka kopnęła mnie między oczy - to topka powieści, które czytałem w tym roku (a przeczytałem więcej niż jedną).
Co prawda, im dalej w las, tym bardziej czuć, że to jednak "młodzieżówka", ale tutaj nie należy tym się kierować - to futurystyczna fantastyka, lekko cyberpunkowa, która nie tylko dostarcza fajną historię, ale też pokazuje, do czego ludzkość może doprowadzić eliminując choroby, wprowadzając wszechwładne AI (które jest tutaj pokazane nawet w pozytywny sposób) i mając pełnię władzy. Polecam gorąco, bo zaskoczeń też jest tutaj sporo.

Gavin Extence - Finding Phoebe
Enjoyable story of a teenager and her best friend.
The narrator is autistic, and there are some lovely depictions of her practical logic, and the way her friend supports her by explaining unspoken social rules. I'll defer to autistic readers on the nuances of that, but to me it seemed engagingly done, & likely to lead to better understanding of autistic kids. (A postscript explains that the author has an autistic daughter.)
But the book doesn't all hinge on that! Multiple satisfying plotlines interweave, and the girls each end up in a better situation at the end.
The only disappointment for me was that, in an otherwise-realistic fiction book published in 2023, covid doesn't exist. Maintaining a fake world of that nature is something I see enough of from the government, without wanting it in my reading as well. Come on, fiction writers, come to terms with it.

Piękny przykład, jak bardzo dobra seria YA może stracić na kiepskiej części, będącej w dodatku finałem. Śmiało mogę powiedzieć o tym, że to "fantastyka z szablonu" i tak miałkiej oraz przewidywalnej fabuły dawno nie czytałem. Tak się zdenerwowałem, że bigosu nie nadążam gotować, aby się uspokoić.
Jedyny plus jest taki, że nie będzie (mam nadzieję) czwartej części, bo mogłaby być gorsza i jeszcze bardziej zatrzeć dobre wrażenie po 1. i 2. tomie. No i nie powiem - cała seria (która jest ogólnie dobra, wręcz bardzo dobra) to dobry prezent z gatunku fantastyki młodzieżowej dla np. 15-latka. Ale jeśli jesteście starsi, to tej młodzieżowości może być tutaj za dużo.

As much as people rail against the #MPAA ratings, I really wish there was some way to rate #books in a similar way, or some way I could find out if they contain sex/violence/swearing and to what extent without just rolling the dice. Especially since I enjoy mysteries but am pretty squeamish. I tend to go for #YA stuff because it is usually at my level of clean, but it also means I don’t read many stories with main characters my age.

Something I just realized is that the constant competition between the girls I see in Canterwood Crest - who is BFF with who, who gets what boy--it's all driven by the patriarchy and that many women see other women as competition and not collaborators. It's part of what keeps us separated, not to mention causes a lot of trauma and heartache in school.
I'm reading the Canterwood Crest novels partially because HORSES and partially for research. 8 books in, I'm realizing what's bothering me.
1) the "outcast" ends up a member of the snobby "Trio" without any self-reflection about who she's becoming (and losing friends along the way)
2) No gratitude for their privilege/position, even for the MC who comes from a lower class riding stable
3) I could go on but I'm glad to know I'm going for a different vibe in my #YA

So I've finally finished the #Spellslinger series ending with Sebastien De Castell's #CrownBreaker.
It's one of those series I'm really sad to finish but really happy to have read (or listened to). It's definitely a #series. I will revisit. Loved the #characters, the #magical systems and #worldbuilding. Must #read for #fantasy #readers.
Also, Joe Jameson did an excellent job narrating these books.
