Happy #YearoftheRabbit! 🐇

I attended the #Seattle #LunarNewYear festival in the Chinatown-International District on Saturday. It was probably the most crowded I've seen in years. Great news for the #community — glad to see people are coming back.

It's an annual tradition for me to try and photograph the lion dances. Unfortunately I only got a few photos because of the swarm of people, but I appreciate what I got. 😉

This was completely out of my wheelhouse...

An image created digitally intended as a limited edition print for an art show themed around the Eastern Zodiac's Year of the Rabbit.

SO many things on this that I've never done before. Chromatic Aberration, Halftone, SO many layer modes, and collaged and heavily altered and manipulated photography...

But there is a piece of me in there. I drew the little rabbit. And the red lantern!

Happy Year of the Rabbit!

#yearoftherabbit #mastoart #art

Illustration of an old, torn, and stained magazine page featuring a little rabbit looking at the Chinese symbol for "Good Luck", mounted in metal on a jade cliffside of tiered rocks descending to a beach with light blue water in the distance. A red lantern floats in the sky. The left edge of the magazine page is burnt. The other edge is torn.

Imbuing all of us with some fierce rabbit energy for the new month and the new year.

Happy #YearOfTheRabbit!

I'll admit I thought the whole #BunnySuit thing was a bit silly at first, but then I got an idea for it that I was genuinely excited about, and it ended up being the most ambitious art I've done in a long time. Hope you enjoy!

(sensitive: sexy bunny suits, eye contact, rude gesture)

Art of my original characters Rose, Nate, Aya and Bex, drawn in my anime-ish-cartoonly style, all wearing sexy black bunny suits. Rose has her best face forward as her butt is turned to the camera and she's looking at you flashing a peace sign / bunny ears gesture. Nate has his arms crossed and is looking skeptically at Aya, who is embarrassed and hiding behind him. Bex is jumping in the air with a mischievous grin and flashing two middle fingers.

Looking for more Lunar New Year fun? With its dynamic composition, lush color, and energetic forms, The Leap of the Rabbit exemplifies the unique style Portuguese artist Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso developed while working in Paris from 1906 to 1914. Souza-Cardoso drew on an eclectic mix of sources he encountered in the French capital, including Art Nouveau, the work of Paul Cézanne, and exotic costume designs of Léon Bakst for the Ballets Russes, as well as the native Iberian tilework of his homeland. The Leap of the Rabbit was included in the groundbreaking 1913 International Exposition of Modern Art (better known as the Armory Show), the first major exhibition introducing American audiences to European avant-garde art, where it was purchased by the Chicago collector Arthur Jerome Eddy.

A young woman with holding a white cage in her hands. There's a little white rabbit right in front of her. She has just released the bunny, and she is waiting for them to run away into the forest.
They are both surrounded by the spirits of other rabbits, happy and leaping into the air playfully.

- You will often see the character 福 fú in gold on a red square, hung upside down (倒 dao). Fu means blessing. 倒 sounds similar to 到 which means arrival. So this represents the arrival of blessings.
- A popular tradition is the gifting of red envelopes. They usually contain money and are handed from seniors to juniors (parents & grandparents to children)

Happy Lunar New Year! 🧧🎊🐰

Some interesting facts about the probably most important festival in China.

- Chinese New Year is an incorrect and exclusive term, you probably mean Lunar New Year
- In Chinese it’s also called the Spring festival 春节
- To us, it’s pretty much Christmas. Families gather to have a grand meal together at a round table, which symbolises the circular nature of the calendar.
