Pentagram (Ultimate, 1986). The last Sabreman game (and the first after the US Gold takeover) takes place in a haunted forest where he must find the pieces of the long-lost Pentagram. The same good graphics, the same puzzles, the same magic atmosphere, but this time with the novelty of shooting magic fireballs when some enemies appears after just a new seconds. A great game that doesn't dissapoint fans of isometric games

Super Soccer (Imagine, 1986). Dissapointing football game. After classic Match Day, games like Match Day II or Emlyn Huges demonstrated that the game by Jon Ritman & Chris Clarke could be improved. But Super Soccer, except for a superb artwork by Bob Wakelin, is a step back. Slow and unpayable, it features a slightly different version of the original Match Day tune, which seems a bad joke, as bad as including the infamous word 'soccer'

Estos 3 celulares viejos que me han quedado (todos Motorola) los uso íntegramente para cargar juegos en las Spectrum. Utilizo las apps PlayZX y ZX Tape Player, ambas de Android. Los cassettes adaptadores me sirven para conectar el celu en las Spectrum 128 +2A, que no tienen la entrada de audio EAR como las 48K de ZX, TK y CZ.

Dr. Franky and the Monster (Virgin Games, 1984). Nice plattform game by Martin Wheeler (Sorcery, Dan Dare) in which Dr Franky must turn his terrific monster into a human being by collecting a flask in every screen, 9 in total, full of ghouls. Poor graphics and a clumsy movement, but surprisingly addictive

Suitably for entry 199, this one was part of Mastertronic’s 199 range, available for £1.99 on tape in the UK. On the Z80 machines, this tiny outlay got you a quite good sim with some dodgy bits – touch the side of the track and you die. On C64, it was a duff Pole Position knock-off with the saving grace of a Rob Hubbard tune. Vroomin’ strange.

Today's #retrogaming on the #ZXSpectrum #SkateOrDie, there is a nifty menu screen here and several events all based around #skateboarding and, even better, a practise mode as well. Once you get the hang of the controls, you can get quite sucked in with this game.
@Sloanysoft Turbo Esprit on the #ZXSpectrum is more fascinating due to what it does accomplish technically on a 3.5 MHz, 48K RAM 8 bit machine ...

Today's modern #retrogaming on the #ZXSpectrum #TheDark: Redux, from the genius that is #ZOSYAentertainment. It has a bit of a Doom vibe going on and is very atmospheric. You have enough energy to get you well into the game ( and addicted to it!) Highly recommended.

Today's #retrogaming on the #ZXSpectrum #Storm should be a good game; it's got that Gauntlet feel about it...but...it's got tricky controls, the room description scrolls across the top, which is unreadable if you are getting bashed by the baddies. It feels #nostalgic
One of my favourite silly videos from a few years ago.
Shows in 'slow motion' a level of tiles for my Game BlockZ put onto the screen to display a level.
Each level was made up of 12 tiles x 10 tiles.
Each tile is represented in memory by a single byte so each level is 120 bytes in size.
In the game the screen is cleared and the colour turned to black so you don't seen the pixel draw and then colour is added.
In this video the pixels are a visible white during draw

Ant Attack, in Antescher. Ant anything good gonna come from this, you might have said if you did bad puns. But the game was superb – perhaps the earliest isometric game where you could roam a city, rescue a friend, and try to avoid getting killed by terrifying horrors. Tense action even today, and the game’s feelers are dotted through the ages, from Head Over Heels to Resident Evil.

For context, I’ve been playing computer games since I was four years old, way back in the early 80s when the #ZXSpectrum ruled the roost. It’s been a core part of my identity for as long as I can remember. For a time that spanned decades, they were my favourite and usually only pastime.

Besides, it has reduced the price of its microdrive cartdridges, faster than Commodore disk units, without any response from the american company. But it was expected some movement, as the new Commodore 128 was coming
Today's sort of #retrogaming on the #ZXSpectrum #JetSetWilly BUT #JonathanCauldwell has created a 16K version of this classic, with only a few tiny changes. This is wonderful and shows just how much you can pack into 16K!

It says a lot about Julian Gollop’s turn-based strategy title that if it wasn’t for the aesthetics of the Speccy original, you’d swear it was a modern handheld game. Various missions have you move a squad around a map, using action points and hoping your enemy doesn’t give you a kicking. Deep for 1988, and a big influence on Gollop’s later X-COM – and many other games besides.

Greets come with some R-Type home conversion action in his UK tv commercial that reminds us that Boots (the chemists), a pharmacy and beauty products chain, was also once a major retailer of computer and console games.
I myself remember picking up C64 Codies and Kixx budget games from there with my pocket money - and even buying PlayStation 1 games. I can still remember picking up a double pack of Syphon Filter 1 and 2 for £19.99 from a local Boots in late 1999 or early 2000.

There was some #RetroGaming going on in the office last night by the looks of it.
I could hear the laughter from our son as he was introduced to Daley Thompson's Decathlon on the #ZXSpectrum for the first time!
Because of all the busyness yesterday, I didn't have a chance to mark a neat anniversary - 40 years since Rare's (then Ultimate) first game: JetPac.
Netting a cool £1 million with 300,000 sales, a LOT by 1983 standards, it provided the Stamper Bros, Tim and Chris, the financial security to develop a handful of other beloved Speccy games and turn their eye to Japan and study development practices and the Famicom, including reverse engineering it, something that Nintendo had declared as impossible. Turning up with that feat and some tech demos, the Stampers so impressed Nintendo that they awarded the nascent Rare, established by Ultimate to develop games for the Famicom and NES, the unprecidented honour of support and an unlimited budget from them.
But yeah, good ol' Jetpac - what a fantastic start. Synonymous with the #ZXSpectrum, it remains a 16k wonder, one of my favourite single-screen arcade games.
