First ‘serious’ #watercolour #painting I’ve done (a few previous sketches and experiments). Based on a photo taken in #Ulverston while on holiday for past week and a bit.
“Pink House and Orange Wall”
Was aiming for more #abstraction, so, #SemiAbstract maybe.

#watercolor @WatercolourCurator #WatercolourPainting #WatercolorPainting

Looking towards a road junction, on the right are an orange wall, a green house and, on the corner, a pink house. Opposite are a row of yellow, red and green houses. More houses climb behind these and all the houses have multiply toned grey roofs and chimneys. In the far distance are green hills and a tall (but looking small here) white tower and a dark blue sky.

i speak in praise of #abstraction - what lines though? for example: the total critique of capitalism and actually existing democracy that derives from #Marx and #Engels. but also #rhizome-centred thinking, which breaks the root and trees of power structures, it (re)presents into an unpredictable abstraction under which the human does not so much lose its status as the universal (sovereign) as becomes responsible...

"Red Runes"

A variant on the previous post. Many of these works exist in a variety of different versions, as I hone in on the final work. Sometimes, it's hard to choose, and several 'final' versions make it. Pieces that don't quite work are sometimes used as the starting point, or - as here - a modifying layer for something new.

PostCSS and Sass can be very powerful tools to simplify some of the complexities necessitated by systems design but more often than not, I think they get over-used. I too find myself drawn in by the possibilities of what it can do but it ends up removing me further from the resulting code. #webdev #abstraction #css

Why is working with Office documents in code such a pain?
I thought OpenXML SDK would be a treat. Streamline working with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Shared API, type-safe, etc.

Sure, it is all that, but there is little to no abstraction. It is all a wrapper around XML. You still need to understand the complete document model. No shortcuts.

In short, a resounding 0 points for developer experience.

Are there other OSS C# libs with higher level of abstraction?

The Map Is Not The Territory - Larissa Fassler’s Sketched Psychogeographies

“What can a set of lines on a map possibly tell you about that most complicated of human systems: the contemporary city? In the case of those drawn by Larissa Fassler, a huge amount. The Canadian artist’s consciously subjective work is influenced by the urban exploratory practice of psychogeography first spearheaded by the Situationists in the 1950s.
She spends days on end at a location, documenting by hand what she sees before her, from passing cars to music spilling out of open windows, notes on temperature, rainfall and shadows and even which street corners smell of urine. Her maps provide not only a body of information that evokes urban space, but also serves as an accurate representation of place… ”

Data-driven memory-dependent abstractions of dynamical systems

by Adrien Banse, Licio Romao, Alessandro Abate, Raphaël M. Jungers

Abstract

We propose a sample-based, sequential method to abstract a (potentially black-box) dynamical system with a sequence of memory-dependent Markov chains of increasing size. We show that this approximation allows to alleviating a correlation bias that has been observed in sample-based abstractions. We further propose a methodology to detect on the fly the memory length resulting in an abstraction with sufficient accuracy. We prove that under reasonable assumptions, the method converges to a sound abstraction in some precise sense, and we showcase it on two case studies. Keywords: dynamical models, switched systems, finite abstractions, memory, ergodicity, observability.

Not been #writing much lately. The things I've been up have required more technical stuff - editing, coding. I'm getting a bit out of that so I'm trying to write more, let a thought pop in and chase it down. Here's something fresh out of the oven. Hope you all have a good one today, ta.

#poem #poetry #FreeVerse #abstraction #MorningWriting #WritingExercise #FirstDraft

I write best under low ceilings.
Under the vaulted roofs of grand buildings
my dreams vault, climb
the lofty space,
assault the spotted
heavens and claw
as the fingers
of the drowned
the hulls
of boats
the clouds;
scratch
upward with
abstraction's
rocketry
collapsing
the earth,
making themselves
narrow, making
all things
in their compass
narrow.

Under low ceilings my heart my lungs expand
my blood thrills, the extremities flush and delve,
the sideways breath roves, sniffs, dog-curious
wetnosed at horizons, shimmies and broadens, throws
wide its hands hanging from the joists that hold
that hang between the friendship of low things
the grasses that touch their blades, the questing
of the rot the spores in the quiet earth murmuring
out their networks, passing the whispers of root
to root, my friends are with me, mere distance
without division stands only between us, and I enjoy
the love of particular things, the only-itself-ness
of each individual - thick under their nails,
undercaked my hands return, filthy and wild
with sheer existence.

So, an #Introduction.

I'm Wolfgang, a #Philosopher by training, #Facilitator by trade and late-coming social #Activist. Born and grown up in Germany, I currently live in #London where I work on #UniversalBasicIncome (#UBI) and #MovementEcology.

As a facilitator, I help people think together: build shared #MentalModels and do collective #Sensemaking.

I have been active in the #ClimateJustice movement since early 2019 and am on a political journey further left ever since.

(I'm increasingly sceptical of the left/right framing, though, and for a very #Leftist reason: It serves conservative/capitalist #CulturalHegemony by masking #Inequality and #Oppression with an illusion of moral neutrality.)

I'm a nerd about #Complexity, #ConceptualEngineering and theories of #Consciousness, think via #Notetaking and live with two fantastic #Dogs.

I value #Abstraction over analogy, #Artrock over Alternative and #AnimalRights over agribusiness.

I'm a #trans #bisexual #VideoGame enthusiast currently based in a tiny flat full of plants in the #UK

I somehow got a degree in #Anthropology and I'm endlessly interested in people, the things we create and do as individuals as well as part of our communities.

Thanks to my #ADHD I imagine this account will be a relatively chaotic mix of hobby hopping, post boosting and a general peak into my stream of consciousness...

I'm gonna dump a bunch of hashtags below, covering all (definitely not all) the subjects I'm interested in, so you vaguely know what to expect!

It's time for an update of my #introduction, so here we go: Hi, I'm an #artist from Germany, exploring #colors and #abstraction in all sorts of ways. A #traditionalArt.ist by heart, after spending literal decades with monochromatic drawing, I switched to acrylic paint and have never looked back. I'm walking the line between #abstractArt and #figurativeArt and enjoy abstract #landscape and #neoPopart.
I sometimes do #urbanSketching, but #painting is what I enjoy the most!

A very bright painting of a person doing two yoga poses. The poses are shown over each other, as if they inhabit the same space.
A very bright painting of a person doing two yoga poses. The poses are shown over each other, as if they inhabit the same space.
Painting of trees and bushes and a power pole in store weird neon colors. It looks very otherworldly and spacy.
An abstract landscape painting in gold and blues and some red. It's from the Lockdown Landscapes series, and it's very abstract and loose.
