A quotation from Gaiman, Neil:
It’s astonishing how much trouble one can get oneself into, if one works at it. And astonishing how much trouble one can get oneself out of, if one simply assumes that everything will, somehow or other, work out for the best.

A quotation from Granville, George:
Happy the man, of mortals happiest he,
Whose quiet mind from vain desires is free;
Whom neither hopes deceive, nor fears torment,
But lives at peace, within himself content;
In thought, or act, accountable to none
But to himself, and to the gods alone.

It's a natural and understandable response, when we strongly disagree with a person or group, to refer to them in frustration as brainwashed or deluded.
But this only serves to 1) dehumanize them, 2) exalt ourselves in our own eyes, and 3) maintain or increase the rift between us. So, we have to do the unusual, and not call them names.

I'm disappointed to hear that Disney, Warner Bros, Discovery, Paramount Global, Lionsgate, and Comcast have suspended their ads on X. Poland’s #queer #community has been #scapegoated by a #homophobic #government. But some #businesses have made it their #mission to #cater to the #LGBTQ+ #community. It’s a #boost to Poland’s #economy, but can it help promote #acceptance and #diversity?
'We Live Here: The Midwest' is on #Hulu Dec. 6 These are not just issues to debate, these are the lives of very real people.
The manager put his hands on his hips. “I don’t want to have to get anyone else involved. You can’t do that here.”
I felt the blood rush to my face and ears. “It’s not illegal to nurse in public. I have a right to be here.”
The Reaper Need Not Be So Grim
A lot of people feel scared when they think about death. In fact, “fear” might not be the right word. I think “terror” is a better one. But is being afraid of death a reasonable reaction? The word “appropriate” is very important here. I’m not going to say that I don’t think a lot of people are afraid of death. What I want to know is if being terrified of death is the right thing to feel.
Have you ever really wanted something, then looked back later and realized you were spared a load of misery because you didn't get it? Perhaps a better opportunity was on the way, or wisdom needed time to develop for better choices.
There are times in life when a disappointment is the best gift we can receive. Appreciating this basic truth helps us accept current disappointments with grace.
People yearn for acceptance, to be acknowledged for who they are. No one enjoys being ostracized, sidelined, or ignored.
Algorithms on certain social platforms can sometimes foster these feelings, leading to sadness or, worse, anger.
Let's strive for inclusivity in our online spaces.

When reading headlines like these:
"Earth close to ‘risk tipping points’ that will damage our ability to deal with climate crisis, warns UN
Analysis also warns of further tipping points on horizon such as drying up of groundwater vital for food supplies"
It is clear that a collapse is not just a '#doomer' scenario, but a real threat. #Acceptance of that fact is step 1 towards a sane way of dealing with the situation. The next step would be to adopt another mindset. A very profound #Mindshift is needed.
Why it is unlikely that we can avoid a collapse of both the ecological system and western civilisation is the main topic of my book, but in the last part of it I focus mostly on the things that we *can* do that will soften our #crashlanding.
Story time: I was at the park playing pickleball with my spouse and kid. A guy was wandering around, occasionally interacting in small ways with other groups. He was heavy set, wearing leisure clothes, crocs, and looked clean.
He wandered into our court, walked through the middle of our game, and stood by our gear looking at it. He asked, "there's an extra paddle, can I play?" I said yes and let him play on my side. He played for a little while and moved on.
The notions of #goodness, #kindness, #helpfulness, #understanding, #compassion and #acceptance of or towards others has been usurped by all #religions throughout time and made into a huge weapon against people, telling them that all those things come from some god or other...and that unless you worship, you won't be all of those things, you won't be accepted into heaven/paradise or wherever. No, people are either all or most of those things above, or they're not. Those are the only differences between humans.
“This is what courage looks like.”
And it gets pretty dark when you realize that the person bringing the dog shit owns the table and all the seats, and decides what is and is not allowed on the table. And if you try to set up a picnic outside the house, where you don't have to eat their shit casserole, they will come and knock all your food around on the ground and accuse you of intolerance and excluding them.

If you want to be a girl, you can be a girl.
If you want to be a boy, you can be a boy.
If you want to be something else, you can be something else.
If you don't want to have a gender, you don't need to have a gender.

And these things are not intrinsic to Autism. They are part of how society is designed to exclude differences to try to get us to conform.
They can be changed and we will all be better off for it.

@BigAngBlack It’s incredibly important that people become aware of #intersex individuals & what their lives mean in the binary gender argument context . Anti-trans people insist there are 2 genders, period. Science has known this isn’t true in an observable, physical way for a very long time.

1. Pre-colonial times, the archipelago we have later known as the #Philippines men and women were equals and respected.
2. Pre-colonial times, it was normal and accepted to cross dress.
3. It was the Spaniards and Catholicism which introduced a strict sexual binary in the Philippines.
4. “History of Cultural Acceptance”: “The Philippines has a history of cultural acceptance of gender diversity.”
5. “The Filipino Language is very **gender neutral**. There are few gendered words or pronouns compared to other languages.”
6. “This gender neutral aspect of the Filipino language reflects the cultural norms and values of the country, which traditionally [puts a] high value of respect for individuals, regardless of their gender identity or expression.”
7. “Overall, the acceptance of LGBTQAI+ individuals in the Philippines is still a complex issue **that cannot be reduced to a single factor, such as religion**.” (Emphasis mine.)
8. The Philippines rank 2nd in Asia and 23rd globally in terms of legal protections.

A quotation from Russell, Bertrand:
In all affairs — love, religion, politics or business — it’s a healthy idea, now and then, to hang a question mark on the things you have long taken for granted.
Full quote, sourcing, notes:
That’s all you can do anything about, and also the future to some extent depending on the lessons learned. Take whatever lessons you can from the event, as I have about the limitations of my aging body, weightlifting, and using strength unwisely. That’s all we can do.
The rest is accepting what is now for what it is, rather than what we fantasize it could have been. #Acceptance is hard work, a lifelong practice. But it’s worth it. Try a little bit today. 4/
Most human traits are shared across the board, whether you have #autism or not. These traits are also combined with so many variables that there's no way to uphold *any* sort of claim that "group x is _____". That's textbook bigotry & #prejudice.
Also, there is no single 'box'. There's one for every context, and most of the time, by definition, the box represents a successful strategy already adopted. The time to go outside these norms is when a new problem arises, or the standard way no longer works. It is not a constant.
If increased acceptance of #diversity is the goal, let's not go about it by hammering wedges between people by claiming to be superior to others, or to be uniquely suffering in this absurd world.
It's true that we can speak of increased likeliness for certain things (including many bad ones you did not mention), given the small % of people in the autistic basket, but that will always be countered by the sheer numbers of human beings near the middle of the bell curve-- literally billions-- who are *not* being individually accommodated by anyone.
Dear politicians, parties and people of the planet.
THERE'S NO DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION WITHOUT DISABILITY.
Fight for something we can change.

Been thinking about how the meaning of words such as patriot and Christianity has morphed in recent years with the rise in fascism, white supremacy and just general hate. To me those words now represent hate, xenophobia, homophobia, racism, etc.
While I believe in a forgiving, accepting and loving Jesus I stopped referring to myself as Christian long time ago as I am totally opposed to the type of Christianity being pushed by the conservative right. In my view they're teach the exact opposite of everything I believe Jesus stands for.
It's gotten to the point that I instinctively judge and keep my distance from anyone who describes themselves as Christian, patriot or religious as I expect them to be as hateful and judgemental as the conservative right, and I just don't need that kind of negativity in my TL or my life.
I do realize that this is pretty judgemental and intolerant especially from someone that is always preaching acceptance, tolerance and to not judge others. I do not. however, consider this hypocrisy. I consider this to fall under the paradox of intolerance which points that in order for acceptance and tolerance to flourish one must not accept nor tolerate hate. By tolerating or accepting hate, it allows hate to flourish and grow. Hate is like a cancer, if you don't actively work on killing it, it will grow and become all consuming, eventually killing all tolerance, love and acceptance.
Call me radical lefty liberal if you want but I believe that anyone that foster hate towards a group of folks based on their skin color, sexual orientation, sexual identity, gender etc., to be a fascist Nazi. Those that claim that they are not those things but consider them "fine folks" or do nothing to speak out against them or condemn them are Nazi adjacent in my book (aka just as bad as actual Nazi). Even if they don't actively hate those groups, if they consider themselves superior because of their skin color, sexual orientation, etc., are in fact Nazi's.
One can be a superior human being by virtue of their action, but not by virtue of their appearance, preferences or identity.
For example a person fighting for LGBTQ rights is clearly superior to a person trying to get that same group banned if not killed. On the other hand there is nothing superior about being straight or LGBTQ. Also someone can be superior in something objectively measurable. For example, someone holding a Olympic gold in 100m dash, is clearly a superior short distance sprinter. However that says nothing about them as a human being.
I'm such a radical lefty that I consider food and shelter to be human rights, and not a privilege for the wealthy. Also trans rights to be human rights as well as the rights for the whole LGBTQ spectrum to be human rights. I know these are extremely radical concepts but I proudly support them despite them being so radical.
