Why are these licensing payments for use of my image, talents & skills so low?

The contract under which the work was performed does not provide transparency of viewing data & streaming hours—data we know to be available—instead opting for an excessively complex & opaque mathematical model to determine residuals, in favor of the production companies and not to benefit #actors.

As the #SAGAFTRAstrike continues, it’s important to remember why #sagaftra and the #wga are striking. One of the primary reasons is transparency in viewership and streaming data to help determine reasonable residuals payments for #actors and #writers.

Residuals are licensing fees paid to performers and artists as a result of the consumption of work which incorporates their talents and likenesses. It’s this license payment structure that ensures a livable wage and career.

Hiring in entertainment is wasteful and inefficient. As we build new contracts, let’s make them good ones, for everyone.

In 2016, the award for essentially what is the Nobel Prize in economics was given to the Oliver Hart and Bengt Holmström "for their contributions to contract theory.”

The current model for determining residuals for actors’ performances for subscription video on demand (SVOD) and similar platforms is a rather excessively complicated model of ranges and multipliers which I will not explain here. Setting a flat rate percentage of streaming subscription revenues would be easier to execute for all parties involved.
