I have something of an approach/avoidance conflict over Mother's Day. It has to do with the fact that my birth mother told me that for 40 years it was the very worst day on the calendar.
So I think of Mother's Day as an opportunity to remember the women who became mothers and were then robbed of their motherhood by law and patriarchy and class stigma and racism.
In other words, all the conditions that underpin #adoption.

I have a friend who is an artist and an adoptee. Their adoptive family are all abusive and/or dead. I'm one of the closest meatspace connections they have and we've never met in person. Online connections are vital to their mental health.

They saw a post by either @mastoart@a.gup.pe or @mastoart@graphics.social (they don't recall which & they're too pissed off to check) that used adoption related language and challenged that language. The response was simply that they got froze out.
The result: they're very put off from this place. And I feel unable to cut off my twitter presence because that's our only connection now.

No baby/child becomes available for adoption w/o being legally & irrevocably severed from its mother, father, entire extended family (including siblings), identity, ancestry, heritage. Found out this morning that my 15-year-old #nonbinary #transracial #adoptee nibling has made a 2nd #suicide attempt and is now at a pediatric psychiatric facility. Having a hard time holding this info. Most of the family - their other aunts/uncles - were informed, but we and one other aunt/uncle were excluded. My husband's family is Catholic, mostly not supportive of stepping outside of gender norms. Those of us excluded support niblung. Feeling 💔 and helpless. #gender #adoption
