Iโm so broke, #gonna onna start celebrating the gift-giving special occasions like the Olympics and just do one every 4 years.
Rotate between Valentines, Wedding Anniversary, Wifeโs Birthday and Christmasโฆ once every 4 years.
I continue to get overlooked when it comes to company recognition and respect.
But if I show my frustration and pull back my effort, I'll be on top of the list of potential layoffs.
If I continue to do quality work with zero boundaries on weekends and late nights, I'll grow even more resentful.
I just can't pick-up and go elsewhere, the job market isn't as hot as it once was. Companies are laying off everywhere.

One of my toxic traits is that I hate asking for help.
So when my wife asked me to call someone to help me move a large piece of furniture up a flight of curved stairs and into our bedroom, I naturally didnโt listen and did it all by myself.
Itโs an odd mix of pride and self-loathing I hope I donโt pass down to my own kid.
But the job is doneโฆ now where is that ice pack? ๐

The cats (Oreo and Mr Minx) took down our wall tree last night, maybe they hate Christmas. So today I have to figure out a new Christmas tree for the house. I'm thinking wire might be the answer.

I took something to help me sleep last night since I hadnโt been sleeping well. I had today off so was finally able to sleep in.
My retired boss called before I woke up. When I called her back, we talked for half an hour. She has had a busy first week of retirement as she has family visiting from overseas next week.
I then submitted items to my personal health spending account + submitted some extended health claims.

Using my bonus to pay off 2 medical bills and 2 credit lines. I still have my biggest credit bill hanging over my head (AMEX), but instead of dumping the remainder into knocking that down by half, I need to save it for the big medical bill coming up next year.
Add to all of this a brand-new credit line dedicated to paying off my new HVAC unit starting next month.
I'm lucky to have relatively good credit, but damn, wish I could at least pay off AMEX.
I don't know who needs to hear this but it is completely OK for you as an adult to buy yourself an advent calendar.
Any kind. Not just makeup or whiskey. You can buy a calendar with Spiderman toys if that's what you want. It's kind of the entire point of being an adult.

We did a cross-border shopping trip to the US yesterday. Thought we'd cash-in on some hot Black Friday Weekend deals... but came home mostly with just chips and candy.
Malls with light traffic, shoppers walked around empty handed, stores with minimal discounts.
Kind of depressing.

Today I seemed to have accomplished a lot even though I didn't intend to.
1. Using a blower and a rake we bagged 10 lawn bags of leaves and pine needles.
2. Got the whole home humidifier ready for winter with complete cleaning and filter.
3. Cleaned the house and did all the laundry.
4. Got a new security camera hung in the front yard.
So I'm smoking a doobie later because I feel like I earned it.

The word "#Degrowth" seems to scare people so that they don't even stop to see what it's about -- AND it still leaves you in that framing of "growth at all costs".
We need to change the frame.
Think about children: they need to grow when they're little. Then, at some point, you want your child to stop growing: they grow UP. They need to start living according to a paradigm which is not all about growth.
Instead of the scary "degrowth", how about talking about growing up?

1. I fixed broken wiring on my desk's fairy lights (I NEED their light and hygge now!). It took 20 minutes and was very fiddly and I really thought I was going to fail, but I did it!
2. I scheduled a plumber to fix a leak in the basement slop sink.
3. I tackled editing the written-incredibly-out-of-order, missing bits, important beginning of my WiP's final act. Gotta get it straightened out before errors iterate.

I literally poured a hard cider during my last call of the day.
In the 5 years since moving into this condo, I have:
- replaced a toilet fill pump
- replaced a toilet flapper valve
- replaced an entire toilet
Somehow, when I was a kid imagining being an adult, there was a lot less toilet repair in my mental image. ๐คโ

I swear the school day is not long enough.
Why are kids only in school from 9-3:30 but parents have to work until 5?
Now I gotta wait until they go to sleep to put in another 2hrs of work? ๐ฉ
Our stove/oven is starting to have problems. It's been repaired a couple of times in its 20 year life but it's probably time to replace it. I can't believe how expensive appliances have gotten. What if I don't need Wi-Fi and several other unnecessary things? There's not much between rental grade and bullshit level of bells and whistles.
So I left the house for the first time this week to buy lunch. Crispy, bubbly, delicious wood fired pizza! Gotta save some for the wife and kid.
Worth it!

1. I went to the school's parent-teacher group and helped plan future things in the face of despair. Adulting! Also, I got to be Idea Person, one of the roles that I'm good at in organizations.
2. Misty autumn days. The best.
3. I am very grateful that my little robot vacuum goes and cleans up spilled cat litter so I don't have to!

My kid feels 'embarrassed' when other people do / say nice things to her.
Whether it's complimenting her on her work or making her craft 'gifts' in school - she says she feels embarrassed and gets upset... she doesn't like it.
Any parents have any experience with this? Any tips on how to approach this?

I try to be honest.
Am I going to get up three hours early so that I can get to work on time with a homemade lunch, clean clothes, and a great attitude? Of course not. Who am I fooling?
So wash your clothes on the weekend, and throw everything you need in the car before you go to bed.
Pack a lunch in a bag. Freeze a water bottle and toss it in the bag right after you roll out of bed, and before you roll up to work two minutes early.
