I pulled out leftovers for dinner tonight, but I really want mac and cheese. I decided to make mac and cheese instead. #Adulting
I continue to get overlooked when it comes to company recognition and respect.
But if I show my frustration and pull back my effort, I'll be on top of the list of potential layoffs.
If I continue to do quality work with zero boundaries on weekends and late nights, I'll grow even more resentful.
I just can't pick-up and go elsewhere, the job market isn't as hot as it once was. Companies are laying off everywhere.
@Rosey love it! Bringing those Miami vibes up north. Unfortunately, I’ve had to pull the plug on goosemas. My son is coming home from school that weekend, so, needed to get him. Might be skiing with him rather than at goose. Have a blast! Was hoping to connect in person, but just not to be. #Adulting #Goose
One of my toxic traits is that I hate asking for help.
So when my wife asked me to call someone to help me move a large piece of furniture up a flight of curved stairs and into our bedroom, I naturally didn’t listen and did it all by myself.
It’s an odd mix of pride and self-loathing I hope I don’t pass down to my own kid.
But the job is done… now where is that ice pack? 😎
1. New hot water bottles arrived! They have cute little sweaters to keep them extra warm. 🤩 Now me and the kids each have our own again.
2. An unexpected new delight: Michelle Sagara's Shards of Glass. Magic school/dark academia, and no need to have read anything else set in that world first. Loving it!
3. Fiiiinally got my market list out, and replied to a few long-overdue emails. #Adulting.
I had to work on a Saturday thanks to somebody else’s poor planning and work ethic.
If you are a middle-manager, don’t be that person 😎
Finally got the 3 pairs of new jeans I bought hemmed up and back from the tailor. If you asked me as a kid if I’d be so excited to wear new clothes as a kid I woulda laughed you out of town. 😂 #Adulting
I took something to help me sleep last night since I hadn’t been sleeping well. I had today off so was finally able to sleep in.
My retired boss called before I woke up. When I called her back, we talked for half an hour. She has had a busy first week of retirement as she has family visiting from overseas next week.
I then submitted items to my personal health spending account + submitted some extended health claims.
Sloth mode now engaged
What do you call one of those donation goal charts? Like a thermometer that shows how close you are to your donation goal? Or a target? But not a target... like a progressive goal chart?
I need examples, but I can't Google it if I don't know what the term is called - AHHHH
Using my bonus to pay off 2 medical bills and 2 credit lines. I still have my biggest credit bill hanging over my head (AMEX), but instead of dumping the remainder into knocking that down by half, I need to save it for the big medical bill coming up next year.
Add to all of this a brand-new credit line dedicated to paying off my new HVAC unit starting next month.
I'm lucky to have relatively good credit, but damn, wish I could at least pay off AMEX.
I don't know who needs to hear this but it is completely OK for you as an adult to buy yourself an advent calendar.
Any kind. Not just makeup or whiskey. You can buy a calendar with Spiderman toys if that's what you want. It's kind of the entire point of being an adult.
(Also, if you did, and you want to nerd out about it, please share :) )
Today is... Ouch.
Just wanna get back home and bury myself under the weighted blankets.
I think I just got a "You're right" response from a work email... Better buy a lotto ticket.
Working with mostly married women, it's like the planets need to align during a solar eclipse while a meteor shower barrels towards earth before they can admit when they were actually wrong LOL.
I can’t wait for my body to get acclimated to winter weather so I can run out with a tshirt in -10c and grab the mail or pull in the trash bins.
It’s like -5c today. I went outside for 10mins and now I’m bundled up inside and need a hot drink and a hot water bottle and a heater.
Did I just have apple pie, stuffing, and sweet potatoes for dinner? Yes, yes I did.
We did a cross-border shopping trip to the US yesterday. Thought we'd cash-in on some hot Black Friday Weekend deals... but came home mostly with just chips and candy.
Malls with light traffic, shoppers walked around empty handed, stores with minimal discounts.
Kind of depressing.
L'Harness è comodissimo per appendere l'altoparlante bluetooth ed avere la musica sempre vicino mentre fai le pulizie.
Carpet cleaned, check. Bathroom fan cleaned, check. Kitchen drawer repaired, check. Ancient Word files converted and restored, check!
My doctor wants me to send in forms via fax...
Where do I find a fax machine? Do I need a time machine first?
Today I seemed to have accomplished a lot even though I didn't intend to.
1. Using a blower and a rake we bagged 10 lawn bags of leaves and pine needles.
2. Got the whole home humidifier ready for winter with complete cleaning and filter.
3. Cleaned the house and did all the laundry.
4. Got a new security camera hung in the front yard.
So I'm smoking a doobie later because I feel like I earned it.
Have a great evening everyone! 🌆
The word "#Degrowth" seems to scare people so that they don't even stop to see what it's about -- AND it still leaves you in that framing of "growth at all costs".
We need to change the frame.
Think about children: they need to grow when they're little. Then, at some point, you want your child to stop growing: they grow UP. They need to start living according to a paradigm which is not all about growth.
Instead of the scary "degrowth", how about talking about growing up?
Nation Terrified That Mike Johnson Is the Adult in the Room

1. I fixed broken wiring on my desk's fairy lights (I NEED their light and hygge now!). It took 20 minutes and was very fiddly and I really thought I was going to fail, but I did it!
2. I scheduled a plumber to fix a leak in the basement slop sink.
3. I tackled editing the written-incredibly-out-of-order, missing bits, important beginning of my WiP's final act. Gotta get it straightened out before errors iterate.
In the 5 years since moving into this condo, I have:
- replaced a toilet fill pump
- replaced a toilet flapper valve
- replaced an entire toilet
Somehow, when I was a kid imagining being an adult, there was a lot less toilet repair in my mental image. 🤔
Our stove/oven is starting to have problems. It's been repaired a couple of times in its 20 year life but it's probably time to replace it. I can't believe how expensive appliances have gotten. What if I don't need Wi-Fi and several other unnecessary things? There's not much between rental grade and bullshit level of bells and whistles.
1. I went to the school's parent-teacher group and helped plan future things in the face of despair. Adulting! Also, I got to be Idea Person, one of the roles that I'm good at in organizations.
2. Misty autumn days. The best.
3. I am very grateful that my little robot vacuum goes and cleans up spilled cat litter so I don't have to!
I did it... Except now instead of taking to a stranger on the phone, I'm gonna have to take to a stranger in person.
Good evening everyone, hope you had a good Sunday! After our trip to the Botanical Gardens we did a couple hours of yardwork, the joys of home ownership. I did have time for a contemplative walk around the lake while listening to my audiobook. Overall a wonderful weekend.
Now I'm patiently waiting for mashed potatoes and pork loin, my Sunday evening dinner.
Have a good night! 🌃
My kid feels 'embarrassed' when other people do / say nice things to her.
Whether it's complimenting her on her work or making her craft 'gifts' in school - she says she feels embarrassed and gets upset... she doesn't like it.
Any parents have any experience with this? Any tips on how to approach this?
The thing about cooking your own meals... is that you have to run out and get ingredients, then you need to actually cook those meals but then you gotta clean up after...
Takeout seems like such a better option for busy homes! Especially with groceries being so expensive now.
I try to be honest.
Am I going to get up three hours early so that I can get to work on time with a homemade lunch, clean clothes, and a great attitude? Of course not. Who am I fooling?
So wash your clothes on the weekend, and throw everything you need in the car before you go to bed.
Pack a lunch in a bag. Freeze a water bottle and toss it in the bag right after you roll out of bed, and before you roll up to work two minutes early.
Rescheduling all my overdue Todoist tasks to random dates in the future.
So many professional adulting conversations happened today that I’m going to need a week to recover. #Adulting
I am reading reviews to make a decision about which laminator is best to purchase so I can laminate the 10 recipes that I use over and over because I can’t keep from spilling things. #adulting
My wife just informed me my chest hair is going gray... I said thanks for pointing out my aging, I'll return the favor some day. She said I could shave it and laughed, she laughed because I'm as hairy as f*cking Chewbacca so shaving would take sheep shears and forever! 🤪 I'm also gray on top and beard so I guess I'll be completely hairless with her method. 🤦
