So, when I went to upload my #VOD to #Youtube, it said that my custom thumbnail could be a gif. I thought this sounded pretty cool, so I used it as more practice in after effects to make a cool looking gif. It took me some time to finagle things to get it to fit in the 2mb limit. When I went to upload it, it didn't want to look for a gif, and when I clicked all files and selected it that way, it kept telling me that it wasn't an image.

Super frustrating considering the time I took to make the file in #aftereffects, but I guess I learned a lesson and got more practice.

VOD is currently uploading, I'm taking a break, and then I'll start the process of editing the next VOD.

I also think I have figured out what my trouble with #streamlabs freezing up on me was. I found some info online suggesting that it's not playing well with #Windows11. So I'm gonna roll back to #windows10 and hope for the best. Hopefully I am able to back up my data and install it without issues.

This. I work in film-making and animation and I'm always hacking away in#VSCode.
In the Adobe #AfterEffects user community a good deal of the discussion is about #JavaScript, because that's the language it uses for automation. Similarly for #Blender, a working knowledge of #python is really helpful, #DaVinciResolve uses #Lua and of course there are command line tools like #ffmpeg and #ImageMagick that means having shell scripting skills becomes a superpower.

Doing a 2D #animation using an image that I've been supplied and trying #Blender instead of my usual choice #AfterEffects. I set up my layers as images on planes, then edited them so that the mesh matched the image content and outlined the alpha, then built an armature. It works really well—doing it this way takes a little longer, but the rig you can create in Blender is so much better than anything in AE, even using tools like #DUIK or#Rubberhose.
The only issue I have now is that the render takes way too long. For something with half a dozen layers and puppet pin animation in AE I'd be expecting at least a couple of frames per second, in Blender using Cycles it's taking minutes per frame.
I tried using Eevee, but it doesn't seem to respect the way I have the layers offset slightly, so things in the background render through the top. Are there render settings I can tweak to improve performace, when all I am doing is rendering flat layers?

Also, it’s an easy one-liner fix to get rotation working again when importing the data file to Spine.

I dunno how many of you here actually use Spine.

PSD-to-Spine tends to get the most love, and resources for the former are much more limited.

I'm working on visual material for a record label for the first time since 2019, and it requires post-production effects and compositing work, so I decided to see if #natron would be capable so that I can do everything with #guix, and so far its been simply amazing, not what I expected at all. If you were ever a #pd, #maxmsp, #vvvv, or #touchdesigner programmer who also had to do post production effects work, you'll feel right at home. I'm yet to see how it will handle the workload once the video material is added, but right now just as a #vfx tool that focuses on a programming-oriented workflow while offering all the keyframing facilities of #aftereffects, its already a much preferable workflow than the latter.

I feel like the deeper reason that #Adobe has been so bullish on #AI is that already in 1999 Netochka Nezvanova had demonstrated that everything in time-based digital visual media could be reduced to a system of objects called NATO.0+55+3d, and everything after that is just understanding how those objects compose, so in order to stay relevant Adobe is creating products that figure out the composition for you, so that you never have to learn it and thus stay dependent on them indefinitely.

🧵 This is from an animation I made about a study on home foreclosures in Pittsburgh that tracked crime within 250 ft of a foreclosed & vacant property. Violent crime increased by an average of 19% in such areas, compared to adjacent occupied areas. The effect peaked at 18 months of vacancy and subsided when the property was reoccupied.

Balls are tossed around inside a lotto machine, until one is elevated to the top of the machine, before sliding down a railing and arriving at front right as the selected ball.

This funny little clip is from an #animation I created for Money Magazine, illustrating the results of an interesting survey they did of American married couples and their attitudes about #money.

Can #Blender be used as an alternative to After Effects? I need to create some animated 2D backdrops based on illustrations.
