#Georgia is the mother of #Alabama.

On this day in 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for not giving up her bus seat to a white man.

Of the event she noted:

“People always say that I didn’t give up my seat because I was tired, but that isn’t true. I was not tired physically, or no more tired than I usually was at the end of a working day…no, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in.”

Black and white photo of Rosa’s mugshot next to her arrest document. She’s sitting and wearing a nice button-up dress with wire frame glasses, a flower in her hair, and has a stoic facial expression. The arrest document it titled ‘police department, city of Montgomery.’ It lists details about the bus driver’s complaint, noting that she was arrested for non-compliance of a city code for Black people being forced to sit at the back of transit buses.

You know how it's a red flag when your date is rude to the waitperson?

Well, it's a nuclear explosion warning when they use a racist slur, a sexist slur *and* threaten to shoot the person they're speaking with--holds true for dates as well as politicians.

Meet #DanielBoman, #Alabama 5th District #GOP candidate, disbarred lawyer, also accused of stealing from an estate. Fucker changes parties as often as socks.

https://www.al.com/news/2023/11/gop-congressional-candidate-was-suspended-by-alabama-bar-for-racist-misogynistic-phone-call.html

https://www.al.com/news/2023/11/alabama-gop-congressional-candidate-facing-theft-charge.html

Text from the first link:

Boman’s abusive language was captured in a phone call recorded by Samsung during a dispute over a repair visit to Boman’s home in December 2017. On the call, Boman identified himself as an attorney and said he intended to sue Samsung for the work time he said he lost while waiting on a tech to repair his washing machine after a product recall.

Boman first spoke with an African American, then was transferred to a female customer service representative.

Boman called the woman a “f…… b…..” and said she “was about as much help as that f…… n….. that I spoke with.”

“I will shoot you in the f…… head,” Boman told the female customer service rep.

The recorded phone call came to light after Boman sued Samsung in small claims court in Marion County in 2018.

After a hearing, the Disciplinary Board of the Alabama State Bar found in October 2019 that Boman violated Alabama Rules of Professional Conduct.
Text from the second link:

A Republican candidate for Congress in north Alabama is facing a criminal charge as he enters the campaign.

Daniel Boman of Winfield, a former state representative and disbarred attorney, was indicted in November 2021 for first-degree theft in Lamar County. Boman pleaded not guilty in April 2022. Circuit Judge Allen W. May Jr. granted a continuance of the trial in October and has not set a new trial date.
Text from the second link:

The indictment says Boman knowingly exerted unauthorized control or obtained control by deception over more than $2,500 from an estate. The crime is alleged to have happened between October 2019 and April 2020. First-degree theft is a Class B felony, punishable by a sentence of two to 20 years.

Boman qualified with the Alabama Republican Party to run in the 5th Congressional District, challenging the incumbent, U.S. Rep. Dale Strong, R-Huntsville. Qualifying ended Nov. 10. (added highlight by me) Strong and Boman are the only two candidates in the March 5 primary. No Democrats qualified.(end highlight and text)

Everyone keeps asking “why is #Alabama being so defiant - even of the #SCOTUS order?”

Now we get a possible answer. And it’s a doozy.

If this is true, it would mean that the SCOTUS is compromised & that the project to overturn civil rights laws is being undertaken deliberately and cynically by multiple associated players & cover groups across the legal system https://www.alreporter.com/2023/09/16/dark-money-the-backstory-of-alabamas-redistricting-defiance/

As APR reported on July 27, Alabama lawmakers working in conjunction with state Attorney General Steve Marshall’s office and Washington D.C. lawyers had “intelligence” that Supreme Court Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh — who voted with the majority in Milligan just weeks ago to order the new maps under the statutory language — is open to rehearing the case as a constitutional challenge to the validity of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.

In her usual masterful way as an accomplished historian, Heather Cox Richardson recounts today what led up to the KKK bombing of Sixth Street Baptist church in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1960, and the deaths of four Black girls.

The bombing took place five days after Birmingham schools were integrated. The recognition of equal rights for Black citizens unleashed a torrent of hate that led to monumental acts of violence.

And why, all these years down the road, keep remembering? This is why, Vance proposes:

"We have obviously not learned the lessons of that history. Today, acts of domestic terrorism committed by white supremacists are not uncommon in our country. ...

In some cases, justice is a long time coming. It should not be, but it is. The delay does not make it any less important, when it finally is done. Justice moves our communities and our country forward."
