Working a new country is not a half-bad way to spend a lunch break. Pleasantly surprised at all the band activity right now given the lackluster solar terrestrial indices. #AmateurRadio #HamRadio
I just worked VP2V/KD4D (British Virgin Islands) on 28.017.1 MHz CW for another new country! #DX #AmateurRadio #HamRadio
I have been pleasantly surprised to see how well my Chameleon Antenna F-Loop is working inside on my kitchen table. It's rainy here today and I don't have great options for a permanent outdoor installation.
I've got it setup and have been doing FT8 QSO's most of the day at 10w with my Xiegu G90. It's not the most optimal antenna, but every antenna is compromised in some way.

once again, many automated "HeartBeat" responses & few humanoid responses to CQ calls up & down the bands using #JS8 this morning. I think there may a phenom similar to "mic shyness" at work here #AmateurRadio 📡
Before STS-9, amateur radio almost made it to the moon and on Skylab 3. It would have been Astronaut Garriott behind the mic again, thanks to #AmateurRadio proposals.

Today: intentionally being a #HamRadio laughingstock:
- Join contest with less than 3 hours remaining
- 10 QSOs
- Submit and leave
Today, we intentionally take last place. If only so nobody else has the (dis)honor of coming in last. :taz_blep:
I'm wondering if we will have another 6M opening like we did yesterday evening? So far I'd say probably not, but I know I'm checking more than an hour earlier than yesterday, so we shall see. #AmateurRadio #HamRadio #6M
Nice radio I picked up this weekend for five English Pounds! Alinco DJ-S1E. Metal body, dry cell holder, all seems to work fine! #hamradio #hamr #amateurradio #amateurfunk

So I just made my first ever 6M contact! #AmateurRadio #HamRadio
I just worked N0RU in Colorado on 50.095.3 MHz CW! #AmateurRadio #HamRadio
Alrighty, fellow ham radio operators! It's that time again! The Worldwide PRIDE Net, which is also known as the Pride Radio Group Net, will begin very shortly. The net is held every Sunday at 2 am UTC, which is about a few or so minutes from the time of this post, and will also be live-streamed on my YouTube channel. If you have any analog or digital radio (or even a PC or smartphone) & would like to check out our net, visit https://prideradionetwork.weebly.com
I just heard someone from CO on the 50.125 MHz SSB calling frequency! Wow! Wondering if I'll be able to work anyone tonight? #AmateurRadio #HamRadio
I also hear the K6FRC beacon on 50.079 MHz CW from CA. #AmateurRadio #HamRadio
Wow! There's 6M propagation from central AZ tonight, atleast to Utah. I am hearing the K7EMX 1 Watt beacon on 50.062 MHz CW. #AmateurRadio #HamRadio
Holy cow! That sunspot is huge and it's directly facing Earth! It looks like it's gonna unleash something nasty at us at any second. Get ready for potential radio blackouts. #hamradio #amateurradio

The first contact from STS-9 means so much to the folks at ARISS, but it’s also a great way to start off a documentary telling the story of #AmateurRadio .

Aurora Alert: Mid-latitude aurora now being reported down to ~42°N over Europe by amateur radio operators. Visual aurora is likely in the northern sky from this latitude.

SAFEX: #AmateurRadio's worldwide influence extended to space, with Germans fling the SAFEX experiment about 2 years after W5LFL’s first contact from STS-9.

Also, on this International Day of Persons with Disabilities, for those of us in the #AmateurRadio community, your choices on #accessibility will determine whether or not a fellow #disabled #HamRadio operator will be afforded the opportunity to participate in all that our hobby has to offer. Inaccessibility is not considerate, friendly or progressive and locking out fellow #disabled hams is contrary to the #ARRL Radio Amateur's Code as stated at https://www.arrl.org/amateur-code

I just did #FT8 by plugging some headphones into my radio, laying said headphones over the microphone pinhole of my laptop, setting my laptop down on the hand mic, because the speakers are right by the feet, and using the standby button on the front of the radio to manually key it.
What the actual fuck. This should not work. This So should not work. It works.

Is anyone else having trouble with their #QRZ logbook?
Ever since the most recent #Firefox update (I use #Librewolf on #Xubuntu), it's been broken and I can't do anything with it. It's incorrectly formatted and I get some nonsense message about XML access. I'm a paid account.

"Did I really think a POTA activation at #Norway 's busiest border crossing would draw no attention? Did I really think that no one would notice my five meter whip on top of the car? Yes, I actually thought so, but that didn't happen.
Nonetheless, the police were friendly and nice, and they even let me film them. And the let me keep on activating. It's all about hamming harder."
Great article on the NASA perspective of what 40 years of #AmateurRadio in human spaceflight means to students and astronauts, many of whom are #HamRadio operators.
poking around on JS8, looking at propagation... numerous automated stations operating now (responding to my "heartbeat" pulses), but not much in the way of real humanoid responses to my actual CQ calls <boo_hoo/>
such is #AmateurRadio operations, mostly random (which is a big part of why I enjoy it so) ;^} 📡

@allpoints@mstdn.social @KJ7OMO@mastodon.radio Ihaven't been on Kimberly's Pride Radio Net in ages, but I'm in the Pride Radio Group's Discord now and then... when I remember to pay attention to it, lol.

So this morning I was listening to this net while working and decided to take a few minutes to check in. I wished all the folks who "sound like they're sick with or recovering from COVID a swift and strong recovery."
I also shared my pronouns, which they totally bungled in the notes which is, like, maximum #HamRadio
I also asked all the folks complaining about young whippersnappers using software to do #MorseCode to consider how the apps improve the accessibility of the hobby and how much kindness it would show to cut them some slack.

#amateurradio 10 METERS IS ON FIRE and 20 METERS hasn't woken up yet.

Sometimes you open WSJT-X to do some antenna tests with FT8 and mistake the 10 meter band for the 20 meter band. 🔆 🔆 💥 :apartyblobcat:

It always makes me feel very sad every time I discover that most disabled people would prefer taking the lazy path of least resistance rather than actually standing for something once in awhile... #accessibility #AmateurRadio #HamRadio

I'm working on my small transmitting (aka "mag") loop, optimizing inductor placement, loop radius, etc.
Part of that involves me applying some RF for testing, etc. Like a good ham, I first switch over to my dummy load on Ant 2 port of my antenna tuner as a 1st step.
And here we are at 1715 hrs local time, it's almost dark outside....but I appear to be able to work some 15 meter DX through my 2 meters coax + dummy load "antenna".

Listening to the old dudes on the Alaska Morning Net talk about their mysterious "flu" and suggesting they should get a refund on their flu shot and ... I just can't. It's COVID, guys.

@AE4WX@mas.to @n8vw@mastodon.radio The problem wasn't that things weren't decoding, it was like I wasn't actually receiving anything. I couldn't hear any FT8 with my ears (it's very recognizable after all!) and I couldn't see anything on either my radio or JTDX waterfall.
The band has activity this morning though I'm not hearing nearly as much as I did with my previous antenna config.
I'm new to the area, though, so I don't know if there are some local geographic or atmospheric things making stuff weird.
For now I'm going to say "I needed to warm up my antenna."
#HamRadio #AmateurRadio #TransHams #FT8
We're making a list, we're checking it twice.
We're on watch for Progress to fly. Radio schedules are here on your social.
Progress activity coming to the ISS. Check the #AmateurRadio schedule below or https://www.ariss.org/current-status-of-iss-stations.html for updates.

Finally got my #HamRadio antennas up on a (janky) mast on the roof of my office and while my UHF/VHF radio is getting WAY better signal my ic7300 might has well have gone deaf on #20m. Listening to #FT8 and the waterfall is completely empty, no decodes, but people are hearing me it seems.
Not sure what I have done to my setup, but it's super frustrating!

During this weekend's #CW #CQWW contest I made 53 contacts with 25 different countries with three of those being new: Cape Verde, Guam and Venezuela for a new grand total of 92 countries worked! #AmateurRadio #HamRadio

I just worked YV4ABR (Venezuela) on 28.058 MHz CW for my 91st country! #AmateurRadio #HamRadio #DX #CQWW
I just worked D4C (Cape Verde) on 21.020.6 MHz CW for another new country! #AmateurRadio #HamRadio #DX #CQWW

You should see this Astron 35 power supply on my desk. It is huge!!! I had to move things around and it is now pretty hard to reach my radio's tuning knob. #AmateurRadio #HamRadio
Wow! I'm back on the air! Turns out I remembered a box of uvery old equipment I had from the first time I was on the air (1985-1992) which includes an Astron 35A power supply! I hooked it up thanks to Aira helping me sort out the positive and negative connections and, well, I'm back! #AmateurRadio #HamRadio

I worked 62 contacts with 40 sections in the #ARRL #SSB contest for an estimated total of 4960 points. #AmateurRadio #HamRadio
Curious... We all know that a CW signal is much easier to hear at lower power levels than other modes, like SSB, but has it actually been scientifically measured? If so, what is the true comparison? Please cite a reliable source if anyone knows. #AmateurRadio #HamRadio
I am thinking of getting my #HamRadio / #AmateurRadio licence.
I was wondering if any of you might already be licensed technicians.
@ascentale A2. I don't use any location sharing apps for riding, but a few people I ride with are hams (me too), so we are carrying radios for some rides. We can communicate each other even when there's no cell service available.

I just worked TX7L (Marquesas Island) on 21.030.2 MHz CW again. Now that they've been on the air the pile-ups are much more manageable. Get them before they leave. #AmateurRadio #HamRadio #DX
@noleli Yeah, that's not one I have much experience with. (Although I have two in my drawer.)
Were I to roll one out, I'd use ti to listen around on the bands to see what I can hear.
Like you, though, I'm eager to hear what other guidance people can share with you.
Has anyone here in the US been able to work India (VU) on HF lately? I'm thinking the challenge is how they're so opposite from us with respect to time so that it is after sunset here when it is their day time. Has anyone gotten through and, if so, which frequency bands? #AmateurRadio #HamRadio #DX
