Quest 3 to pierwszy konsumencki headset AR/VR.
Wiecie dlaczego? Ponieważ porównujemy headset AR/VR do przestrzennego komputera. Tym właśnie jest i będzie w przyszłości Vision Pro.

#Metaverse #AR #VR #Privacy #DataProtection #XR: "The immersive internet experience known as the metaverse will erode users’ privacy unless significant steps are taken to improve and regulate how the technology captures and stores personal data, a new report from New York University argues.
The metaverse relies on extended reality (XR) technologies — the umbrella term referring to augmented reality, virtual reality and mixed reality. The report from NYU’s Stern Center for Business and Human Rights warns that because the technology doesn't work without gathering and processing vast quantities of personal and bodily data, it presents a major privacy risk.
According to the report, the bodily data alone can be used to deduce behavioral and psychological information about individuals.
“Conventional XR hardware is equipped with sensors that continuously track at least three types of user data: head movements, eye movements, and spatial maps of physical surroundings,” the report says."
Ich bin heute als Juror des #XRScienceAward in der DASA in #Dortmund. Das DIVR hat eine tolle Jury zusammengestellt, um Hochschulprojekte zu bewerten, auf die ich schon sehr gespannt bin! Even if they walk it back, the Unity debacle is ultimately good for the XR community. Allowing a game engine to dominate the space has locked out developers who have no interest in game development.
We need to move away from game engines and create new & intuitive tools, designed from the ground up for XR, enabling an untapped community to discover new use-cases.
Hey folks! we’re hiring!
We’re an early stage startup working to build the #spatailweb
We understand that this is a new space, so we encourage everyone to apply regardless of #xr experience. We want a strong engineer first, XR experience is just a plus.
hope y'all are enjoying the rebooted #tech #youtube channel (the original one / lockergnome) ~ it's a radically new editing style that better matches my energy, i think ~ just uploaded https://youtu.be/G2ZULqM8IJ0 with my take as to how apple's vision pro is gonna change the world ~ #apple #hardware #vr #ar #xr #ios
I'll also be looking for some testers soon!
This video is an early test on the Nreal Light using AR and a phone as a 3DOF pointing device. The Quest version uses full hand tracking.
Researcher Wenbo Tao who is also a designer and builder created a beautiful demo that demonstrates physics on the Vision Pro.

Generally I really like #DamiLee's #YouTube videos but this one, along with the video extolling the virtues and wonders of a very inaccessible house she's proudly designing, reveal what to me seems like a lack of connection to a grounded reality that accounts for real people living real lives.
Activate VR in Unity at runtime? How hard can it be?
Answer: one and a half days' worth of troubleshooting the Wi-Fi, blaming the Oculus Pro, and a pinch of frustration hard...
On the bright side, I got a blog out of it! Check it out:
Meta's wild prototype Flamera headset looks straight out of a sci-fi film.
And the strange, bug-eyed lens design isn't just for fun. The Flamera's odd lens is specifically designed to guide light in a way that defeats the perspective problems that most AR headsets suffer.
It's an alternative to the Meta Quest Pro and upcoming Apple Vision Pro, both of which try to crush the perspective problem with raw computational power.
Apple Vision Pro isn't out yet, and Google has already scrapped their plans for a simple pair of glasses. Now they're partnering with Samsung to make a pair of AR goggles.
This is a terrible idea...
🚀 Exciting MRTK Updates!
The Mixed Reality Toolkit is now its own independent org on GitHub. @Microsoft's commitment continues, plus a new steering committee with @magicleap and @Qualcomm which also hired most of the talent from the #MRTK team. 🙏
I’m posting this from one of three #AR monitors on my ceiling as I recline in bed. Sometimes living in the future is actually cool.
So far all of my life's work has been gobbled up by these tech bros. #VR, #AR, and #AI get tossed into the worthless pile while I've been using all of it daily. What I'm using it for and what they are promising are radically different but it still gets grouped together.
Here's the link to that article I screen capped above. I did that because I didn't want that person making a reasonable point to be dragged into "it's all good actually" that I'm making now.
I'm delighted to be presenting *two papers* and *two artworks* at #IEEEVIS in Melbourne Australia this October! 🐨

Great news! Our paper "UniteXR: Joint Exploration of a Real-World Museum and its Digital Twin" has been conditionally accepted for presentation at #VRST2023!
Stay tuned for more updates 🚀📚🔬
💡How could #AugmentedReality revolutionise education?
The #EUfunded project @ARETEH2020 uses #AR technologies to:
📈increase the efficiency of training & skills uptake
🗣️make teaching & learning of foreign languages more accessible
🔬improve creativity in STEM education
This is becoming my favorite way to stream my PC games!
AR glasses and Steam Link is a killer a combo, and it won't break the bank!
Run your game from a PC, carry a little Android TV "brain", pair a Bluetooth controller, and you have a HUGE screen gaming experience anywhere you want it.
I'm still quite shocked and pissed off by this bad news : the layoff of the #ThirdRoom team and indefinite pause on the project, due to lack of funds ... : apparently the main funds providers are diverting their attention from one hype to another (metaverse to AI) while there are actual productive usecases for the tech developed already (but needs some brushing)
and @EU_Commission @EC_DIGIT @EC_NGI funds are totally not adequate to support this :/ what a waste 🥶 #vr #ar #metaverse #floss #libre
I’m a bit of a negative Nancy and looking at the 2 BIG tech trends now I’m not sure what’s what with my biases
With #AI I see a new phase of automation of administrative work, but just a support tool for less strictly defined tasks. You’ll still need professional humans to do the actual work when it’s not highly procedural
With #AR I can’t see convincing use cases beyond commercial telepresence in soulsucking meetings, and $$ gaming

And now to something completely different: for a project I am looking for AR/XR glasses with the following features: camera with the abilty to live stream the content to a remote audience, two way audio connection with this audience, and ideally the option to read/see feedback from the audience on the AR display. If there is a very robust and convincing solution without the latter, maybe audio feedback is enough, too. What would you recommend?

Augmented Reality for ALL of us!
I'm partnering with XREAL to clear the air about AR glasses, and show off the new BEAM AR adapter.
For folks who have been frustrated that their iPhone or Pixel doesn't support a fancy pair of glasses, the XREAL BEAM adds AR features and head tracking to ANY computer you connect to the XREAL AIR.
Get a floating virtual monitor at a price that won't break the bank!
Hello again #fediverse 👋
Happy to bounce ideas around these areas at any time. 😊
Trying Space Invaders World Defense in front of my house. This is a screenshot of what it looks like when the app senses your location. As you can see, it's insanely hot and I'm not staying out here long 🤣

🪦 Lessons From the Catastrophic Failure of the Metaverse
「 The Ford Pinto–esque failure of this enterprise, finally put to bed by Zuckerberg himself in May, cost people their jobs, investors their money, people their time. It should cost McKinsey, Citi, Meta, and all the folks in architecture eager to jump on the bandwagon more than a little of their prestige or dignity 」
Last week Wired Sussex invited us in to try lots of their VR and AR experiences. It was great! Here's what we experienced... https://www.brightonfarm.com/2023/freelancers-in-vr-a-farm-special-20230705/
I'm excited to reveal my 92nd MOULE release:
🔥 REALITY COLLAPSE 🔥
"Reality Collapse" was coined by Jack Clark, the former policy director of #OpenAI. It's about the end of reality caused by generative #AI combined with #VR and #AR reality generation tech. :StrattzrVR: :RobinRainbow:
So, I’m low-key thinking of writing my first-ever graphics-heavy software. (Specifically, to do with VR / UIs, but not gaming.)
Thing is, my experience is with PLT & compilers, distsys, FOSS … but _extremely_ not graphics, GPUs, or single-host performance of pretty much any kind.
I need advice. If I want to learn some relatively-low-level graphics stuff, but I have _zero_ relevant background; where do I start?
Any resources for me (tutorials, books, well-known starter projects?)
(Also, any Mastodon accounts I should follow on this topic? Poke me if you're into this stuff and I'll follow you! :P)
Apple’s Vision Pro could bring a culture of surveillance unlike anything we’ve ever imagined
My latest for COSMOS Weekly - because surveillance is _how_ #AR works.
I've been really enjoying this Youtube series on Apple’s AR tooling. It started before the #AppleVisionPro and #visionOS were announced but it's covering the entire process of building an #AR game for iOS in #Swift, starting with the 3D models. It is one of the great recent examples that is all-in on #SwiftUI too. #iOSDev https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOsr5_dgp7A
Google is no longer building its own augmented reality glasses. The company has chosen to focus on #AR software instead. https://www.engadget.com/google-is-no-longer-building-its-own-augmented-reality-glasses-062555498.html
Google is reportedly cancelling their AR project Iris. I REALLY HOPE Iris was their mixed reality ski goggle headset, and not the simpler glasses shown here demoing real time translation.
I owned the Focals by North glasses, and I can't tell you how transformative that experience was. It was NOT any kind of real AR. It was a simple heads up display, with a UI like a smartwatch, but at eye level. It was amazing.
I truly believe we're skipping an INCREDIBLY important step trying to race to magic sci-fi AR. So many interactions with our technology would be wonderfully streamlined with a simple graphic or text at eye level.
Here's the article on Google Iris https://www.businessinsider.com/google-ar-iris-augmented-reality-smart-glasses-2023-6
