This painting is blue. Swirls, smears and shades of deep rich blue. There are other dots of colour, but mainly it's inky blue. If you glanced at it, you might think it abstract expressionism. But then you peer in, and the splodged orange rose at the top becomes... the moon? The sun? And the bits of colour around it become... stars? Chinese lanterns? And the smear of yellow snaking up the bottom left-hand corner becomes... a streetlight promenade? And then the angles next to it become... roofs? And the great swelling mass that forms most of the picture becomes a mighty river. If Van Gogh had painted this, it'd be on a million posters and would cost you nine figures in any currency.

A group of 7 people that the title tells us are African women, painted from a distance and an elevated position. They all seem to be wearing head-dresses. One of them is carrying a baby in a papoose type thing. One is carrying a trug of fruit or veg. They are all wearing shades of blue from a limited palate. The paint is daubed onto the canvas quite roughly, and we see no features on their faces, but they all appear to be looking at us, as if we have disturbed them. We can see the skin on their faces, their arms and legs, and it is all the same shade of black.

A woman holding a child, who in turn holds an apple. They have haloes, so I suppose it's meant to be Mary and the baby Jesus? Ignore that nonsense. This is just a beautiful, delicate and elegant painting of a mother and child. She has dark hair pinned behind her ears, narrow eyes, a long thing nose and a small mouth. She is looking affectionately down at the child, whose head appears to have been closely shorn apart from a square at the front. The child has a rather stern look on its face, and is wearing white, while the mother has a diaphanous head-covering, a grey top and a pale green shawl. There is some writing in the top corner, but it is in a script I can't decipher.

Single Hawaiian Poppy against an abstract garden background, watercolor painting.

High atop dry, leeward mountain slopes and arid coastal plains on the islands of Hawaii grows a prickly little plant, the Pua Kala - literally meaning “thorny flower,” but more commonly known as Hawaiian Poppy.

The head of the flower features snowy white petals and multiple yellow stamens as well as a deep purple stigma at the center. The fragile petals typically only last one day during the Pua Kala’s blooming period.

What do you suppose the #BeautifulPeople are up to right now? I was never much of a one for #FridayNightDrinks. Bars too packed with the once-a-week crowd who didn't know how pubs worked. Tuesday afternoon has always been my #drinking sweetspot. Just the committed, the passionate and the desperate. And always a quiet table to sit and read a #book at.

An elegant drawing of elegant people enjoying an elegant drink in elegant Paris. Front and centre is a beaming lady in a get-up that looks Edwardian, maybe? Corseted pink frock, embroidered top, big hat with a huge red feather and a red rose in her hair. She is sitting alone at a table, but slyly looking at her from behind is a rogueish-looking cove with a pencil moustache, a top hat and a slim panatella cigar. Next to her is a top-hatted old gent with a walrus white moustache, who appears to have dozed off while leaning on his cane. In the background are a couple in similar outfits to those previously described. This is not how my local pub looked on a Friday night, I can tell you that much.

A print depicting a London tube station. It is highly stylised, with the platform curving around to the right, and the red train with it. The train (which is either just arriving or just leaving) looks full of people sitting down, and there is only one person on the platform (who may be the platform manager). The platform is decorated in art-deco patterns of green and yellow, with some illegible arrivals boards hung overhead. At the centre of the painting is the black hole of the tunnel, and to the right is the platform exit. It is all clean, uncrowded and stylish. If only all public-transport journeys were like this!

I’m learning how to work with colored pencils, and am experimenting with limited palettes. Although it wasn’t intentional, this drawing is a perfect way to celebrate St. Pats day, as it only uses 4 colors: 3 of them are green, and an India red.

So first up, technically you can see the boobs and tuppence of the woman depicted lying in bed with her lover, who is barechested but has blue checked pyjama bottoms on. But these lovers are drawn in a style so innocent, flat and childlike.They lie on a mint-coloured bed, on top of many cushions. There is a red rug on the floor, stripey wallpaper and tartan curtains. Outside it is snowing, so they must have the central heating on, for they are not covered up for warmth.

As per title, really. Two low residences form a sort of courtyard, with four trees across the front of the scene. The one on the left looks like an ash/elm sort of thing, the two tall ones in the middle are larchy, and the one on the left is like a weeping willow that's just had some unexpected good news.(I am absolutely incapable of remembering tree species names. I have tried. Can't do it. Sorry.) The style is reasonably realistic, but not photorealistic. There is an orange light on in one window, but that is the only indication of human presence. The moon drifts silver through the clouds, giving the greenery below a tinge of sage. This is the sort of night when I go outside to be quietly alone.

In what is often snobbishly called the 'naive' style, we have a big reddish-brown feathery eagle swooping above a pastoral scene, with someone sitting outside their watermill house, busy with some handiwork. Someone else has just turned up on a cart drawn by two horses. The trees are leaved with bubbles for foliage. It is hard not to smile.

This looks like someone took a red, yellow and red German flag and cut it up, then rearranged it. The colours are still in their right(ish) place and order, but now everything is slightly disjointed, as if looking through a cracked pane of glass. There are diagonal lines emanating from a crude representation of the Brandenburg Gate, and three elegant grey curves around it - two on the left and one on the right.

This is abstract. If it looks like anything, it's 8 cotton buds placed in parallel across the canvas, with the bottom bit of cotton lime green and the upper bit plum red. But then again, it doesn't look exactly like cottonbuds. I struggle to work out what artists want to convey through abstract art, or how I'm meant to think/react. So all I can say is that I like it, and that if I stare at it long enough the lines and fluff start to move.

#Spring in the UK has been a bit weird. Warmish weather followed by cold, frost and snow. Sometimes within the same day. The #cherry -type #trees have blossomed and are now on the way out, while the #magnolias are refusing to open their treasure. Meanwhile, the #flowers don't know what to do. So here's a lush bed of #bluebells to look at while we're waiting.

I don't know how to describe the style of this painting. It is obviously a woodland scene, with a bed of bluebells. But it's all fuzzy and out of whack. Like looking through an unfocused lens, or a bathroom window. It's lovely though. Spring is my favourite season.

The other wing is held slightly open. A bit of blue plant behind. Maybe some sort of shell in front. I don't care about those things. I love owls, and this one's a belter.

This is very simple. A few squares and triangles in green, brown, teal and orange represent fields. There are six lollipops reprsenting trees. And then above is a whacking great sunrise/sunset sky, represented by six rays radiating out from a point just out-of-frame to the right. From bottom to top (anticlockwise) they are coloured blue, apricot, peach, rhubarb, blackcurrant and aubergine. Simply brilliant.

A naked figure reclines propped up on cushions with their back turned to us, but featureless face turned towards us. They look womanly, from what we can see. There is a big dahlia-type flower in the top left, which is probably the decoration on the parasol, but it looks like the sun if your concentration falls mainly on the bum (which mine did, for I like bottoms). So you have this big flower/sun, then a wide streak of rusty brown background, then the pale skin, then the brown-sugar sand. I can't tell if the figure never had a face painted in, or whether it was included but then scrubbed out.
