One day I could not pass by an art shop, I bought canvases, paint brushes an easel and I was to create this installation. In fact, these canvases brought me to the art shop, i seeing them in my dreams, so I could turn them into a reality.

The point is I can still have a smartphone. I can have social media (if I want.)
But they're MY tools and toys, NOT the other way around.
They don't control me. Won't.
Understanding the technology behind devices, the internet and apps has helped me realize this.

And I have a ways to go.
My art is NOT content to be doomscrolled through in boredom. (I hope. People will do what they want.)

Its there to process and feel and understand.

That's it I guess.

It has gotten to the point where I've realized I dont need social media.
Social media needs ME. It needs US to make free content that can be viewed for a few seconds and discarded, to scroll onto the next piece of content.

I slowly decided I don't need twitter, Facebook and Instagram to share my artwork with the right people.

Every time I get on these sites I leave off feeling worse about myself and my art.
What's the point?

But when I got off of social media and went to conventions and clubs, I was shocked to find that people actually liked my artwork. Found my comics funny and poignant.
People found my paintings and drawings thought provoking.

People stopped and LOOKED at my artwork. The artwork that social media rejected.

I took longer and longer breaks from social media.

It got to the point where I dreaded posting my art on Instagram, Facebook or twitter. I thought that the lack of engagement on my work was a direct reflection of the quality of my artwork.

And I began to think my art wasnt good enough. I wasn't a good enough artist. And I drew/painted the wrong things.

And I had several Menty B's over the years.
And I took breaks from social media.
But I always came back because that's where I thought my artistic future was.

The thing is, my situation is slightly different. Companies urge you to post as much art 'content'. The online art culture is 'post as much art content as you can and if you skip a few days, apologize profusely'.

And I bought into this.

If I don't produce enough art, I am bad, and I wont be discovered by an art director, and I wont make money from my art.
