I took a detour on the way back to measure a section of the Tissington Trail, and was shocked at the devastation that #Ash die-back #disease has caused here. It's changed it from a verdant shady trail to an exposed routemarch similar to the High Peak Trail, and scratched it off potential routes for future walks. Probably 70% of the mature trees along the 3 miles I walked have been felled, and it will take many decades before it's character is restored.

At the highest point of Stora Karlsö is a bronze age cairn, called Röjsu, and in the middle of the stones grows a 400 year old ash tree. The tree "Linné's ash" is named after Carl von Linné who described it in 1741 in his travelogues.

My favourite way to speak artistically is through wood. My focus recently has been #illustration - specifically my #tarot decks - but wood is my heart’s best canvas. I prefer #reclaimed wood, often rescuing pieces from being firewood. I paint & draw on pieces, but #pyrography is my favourite. All #freehand. Shown here are #chestnut and #yew I saved with permission from a log pile, and some #sycamore and #ash I got from a furniture makers offcuts.
