1964: In support of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Buddhist Churches of America (Jodo Shinshu Pure Land) passed a resolution condemning the Ashbrook Amendment, which would permit job discrimination against atheists. I was at a friend's house tonight for dinner, and talking about folklore.
They mentioned that one of their roommates, who is the only non-atheist in the house, was bothered by an event that happened at their local church.
People in black robes came to their church on Halloween night and cast a hex on their church using a witchcraft ritual.
And I responded "THAT'S METAL AS FUCK! 🤘🤘"
The roommate was apparently behind me. I don't think they appreciated my enthusiasm.

I thank Chrissy Stroop for teaching me, an atheist who will never read the whole bible, that Jesus was actually kinda wack in some ways, contrary to the mental gymnastics of liberal Christians. Her latest article points out that if someone who wasn't Jesus said that "people should gouge their eyes out to avoid 'lust'; to treat thought crime as just as wrong as harmful actions; to take a donkey without asking permission; to predict eternal torment for the people who refuse to follow him; to break up families, etc," we would rightly identify this person as an abusive cult leader.

It is ok to criticize the #government of #Israeli: that is a matter of policy, and bad policy at that.
It is ok to criticize #Hamas: they are a #terrorist group, and one that murders civilians at that.
It is ok to criticize #Judaism, #Islam, #Christianity, and #Atheism, intellectually, as perspectives on #religion, as long as we understand that these are diverse groups where adherents have vastly different ideas of doctrine and practice.
It is never ok to criticize someone for the arbitrary group they were born into, nor for what other supposed members of a group they're a part of do, or any other case where it's not a direct result of being members of said group.
Members of groups are individuals, and are responsible only for what they do and say, not for what others do and say. It does no good to ask someone to answer for the actions of another, unless they're actively advocating for that person.

Recommended.
Powerful personal story, and a great deal of evidence against the Bible. Some of the arguments I found confusing or unconvincing, but most is very powerful and convincing. Once you get a scholar's perspective on the Bible, it's hard to see how anyone can take it seriously.

It bothers me when people think #atheism is a religion. I've had people tell me "that's just your belief."
No. It isn't belief. That's the point. Atheism - "non-theism"- is about NOT taking things on "faith," but about accepting whatever the weight of evidence supports.
The realisation of, combined with enough confidence in your own brain capacity, that religion is just a load of unproven and nonsensical cr@p?
