- Dynamic lighting to increase traffic safety

I used to think Elon Musk was a talented engineer, but demanding a level of precision that is at best ruinously expensive and more likely physically impossible is just crazy pants. Even tiny temperature fluctuations would make that level of precision impossible. Tesla has a huge problem with inconsistent build quality and has for years - and Musk's idiotic demands will just make that worse.

The #automotive #manufacturing floor is *also* a safety-critical system - in terms of its impact on employees and in terms of the safety of the public.
An improperly assembled automobile is an immediate public safety hazard the very moment it rolls off the lot.
It’s not a hypothetical.
Maintaining a system safety lifecycle is brutally expensive and much more expensive than one would think.
Silicon Valley culture, frankly, just seems incompatible with that reality on multiple fronts.
I have said it before, and I will keep saying it...
Nothing has damaged #Detroit and #Michigan more than the #automotive industry - from multiple fronts and multiple perspectives.
And although I believe that some public officials here are starting to (finally) recognize that, we must be far more aggressive in shifting away from this industry in Michigan.
The amount of state incentives that have currently been spent on #BEV #battery facilities is too much at this point.
One modification we've made to #Android #Automotive OS (#AAOS) is adopting #JetpackCompose for the #UI (including the System UI). This allowed us to follow the current #Google UI/UX best practices, and to create a theming engine that can be easily adopted by system, in-house, and third-party apps to provide a high level of UI customisation.

I've got to get out there and finish installing the fuel pump relay on my #VW #type3 😩
I just have no idea what to make of this mess of old fucked up wiring, and a mental block about #electrical in general.
I think this is the "Voltage Supply Relay" so one of the wires that runs off of it will go up front to the fuel pump relay. Then I just have to figure out which wire runs to the ECU.
I think I need an induction loop meter...

I got my new fuel pump relay for my #vw #squareback, now I just have to find the wires that some monkey cut off to bypass the old one. The diagram shows wires running to the pump, ECU, voltage regulator, and auxiliary air valve. I *think* I know where all those are, and I have a test light so I can tell if they have voltage.

Still haven't put the new fuel pump on the #Squareback yet. I figured out what that weird patch wire was for, it's a bypass. There's probably a short somewhere in the original #wiring loom and instead of fixing it they drilled a hole in the firewall and ran a new wire directly to the fuel pump. There's even a twist at the fuse block for a cutoff switch. 🙄 #vw #electrical #automotive #aircooled #aircooledvw #type3
There is effectively no #automotive regulation in the US and, as such, there is no independent scrutiny on #OTA updates for cars.
OTA updates can yield public safety benefits in quickly and efficiently rectifying safety defects.
**But** the OTA update mechanism can also be used by automakers to water down upfront validation (in order to get to market faster and cheaper) and to hide safety defects without a #recall.
And, because there is no oversight on the latter, they should be disallowed.
I am going to be really disappointed if everyone at this #Mackinac Policy Conference left without recognizing the need to aggressively diversify #Michigan’s economic base away from #automotive #manufacturing.
