Fall Color Napa Style This image was captured from a small county road that winds it's way over the Napa Valley towards Sonoma. Looking down, out over the crop rows of grapevines pulls your eyes towards the stand of Italian Cypress and Valley Oaks in the distance. Behind these trees are the hills on the east side of the valley. The sun is throwing a nice warm glow on the vineyard from the south out of frame. The vineyard is protected on the north by the rows of Italian Cypress trees.

Color On The Vine This image was captured off of the Silverado Trail in the Napa Valley in Northern California. This is an image that is looking down a couple of rows of grapevines in a Napa Valley vineyard. The angle of the rows lead the eye from left to right and bottom to the mirrle right of the image. The grapes have already been harvested but the leaves on the vines has turned a brilliant yellow and orange, especially midway through the photo where the early morning light is hitting the top of the vines.

Grapes On The Vine

Living within a stones throw from California's famous Napa valley certainly has it's advantages.
I do prefer the late summer and fall for shooting any images at the wineries as the grape vines are full of foilage and bursting with fruit and color.

About ten distinct leaves in the foreground and a mass of foliage; leaves and branches blurred in the background with patches of light blue sky. Each leaf has I believe five to six individual fingers (portions), medium sized growths, spanning outward from the middle part, that end at a point at the tip. Each leaf is around 100 millimetres (4 inches in diameter). The general colour of the leaves range between yellow, a handful display in light green, burnt orange and light red. They appear bright as the morning sun is shining from the back of the photographer and onto the leaf surface. They’re truly gorgeous.

Standing on the shore of a small cove on a large lake. A narrow peninsula is maybe 50 feet away across the water. It is covered with tall trees, as is a second peninsula beyond to the right across a small channel of water. These two peninsulas form the cove. There are a few hemlocks on the peninsulas, the rest of the trees are hardwoods that have lost most of their leaves. Those that remain are brick red or golden brown past peak colors. A gaggle of ten geese is swimming on the cove. Eight of them are feeding, their heads below the water. The two geese on the right and left are keeping watch for danger. A bright golden sun about to set burns through the trees on the left. The sky is a pale gray blue.

Just Like That - to me is how seasons change if you stop paying attention. One day, leaves on the trees, next day, gone. I noticed this tree at Lake Superior State Park in Bethel, NY. Half its leaves were gone. The others waiting to blow away in the wind.

Was just out in the garden, and saw one of the hostas has started to change colour for autumn...but only on half of one leaf, the rest of the plant still looks normal.

It's a great contrast in colour and texture between the two halves - glaucus and full of moisture to the left, pumpkiny and wrinkled on the right

I love this view of Yosemite Valley. This was captured in late fall along the Merced River. The river is running slow through lack of rain. Because of this the water is smooth and undisturbed just as much of the park is at this time of year.

Reflecting on Yosemite Reflecting On Yosemite. I love this view of Yosemite Valley. This was captured in late fall along the Merced River. The river is running slow through lack of rain. Because of this the water is smooth and undisturbed just as much of the park is at this time of year. The rock formation center left is known as Washington Column and is a very popular area to climb. Washington Column rises almost 1800 feet above the valley. Rising just above the trees at right center of the image is known as Clouds Rest. Clouds Rest gets it's name due to the fact that many of the storms that blow in from the coast hit Clouds Rest first and tend to get hung up there. In the middle of the image is the Merced River still as can be with a symmetrical reflection of an old stone bridge crossing the river.

We are atop a mountain on a large open rock face, slanting down towards the valley below. Clusters of tall golden brown grasses are growing in two spots where some soil has collected on the rocks. Several dusky green cedars are growing below and beside the rocks. The other trees are hardwoods with flaming orange or orange red foliage. The trees in the valley below and along several ridges to our right are also displaying vibrant colors. A campus of a local university covers a hilltop below right.
