I spent some time this weekend implementing an index-independent test for mesh equality in blender. This is useful for testing changes to mesh algorithms, which might add elements in a different order than the old algorithm.

Writing a general version of such a test would involve solving the graph isomorphism problem! Luckily we can cut some corners in this special case. Another escalated evening project...
Since point clouds are so efficient in Blender, I thought why not create a fully procedural forest? Combined with randomized attributes per tree and branch, I was able to change between summer and autumn colors.

The first three photos have around 2 million points each, the last one has 20. Past 25 million, my system runs out of VRAM. So I guess I'll have to implement some kind of automatic density downscaling for large scenes.

The Bone Collections work is done for now, at least for Blender 4.0.

More improvements will follow, but since they won't break compatibility we can do those in Blender 4.1 as well.

For 4.0 there's more work to do, like changing how visual keying works. For that I did some digging in Blender's history, all the way back to 2007! I hope that I manage to fix things before Wednesday, that's the cut-off date for functional changes in 4.0.
