I hate lengthy #youtube videos ordinarily, but I was able to get through Jessie Gender's #Barbie review and I highly recommend it if you're trans or reasonably open-minded about hearing the film's issues. It's not that it's a bad movie (I think it's pretty fun), but its message is undercut by instances of capitalist apologia and gender essentialism that I guess didn't bother only me.

Got around to watch #Barbie the movie and I certainly found it entertaining. I think part of the appeal was that it was a blockbuster movie that wasn’t DC or MCU.
The statement „I don’t want to be a creation, I want to be a creator“ certainly resonated with me. Kudos to Mattel to letting all the undertones intact in the movie for those who want to see it.

If you're looking for a thought-provoking film about the atomic bomb, I recommend watching something else. Oppenheimer is a visually stunning film, but it's ultimately empty and unsatisfying.

Instead, he focuses on creating a film that looks cool and feels important. But it's all just empty spectacle.
I'm much more impressed with the Barbie film. It's a comedy, but it also has a very important message about accepting yourself for who you are. It's a film that's both funny and meaningful, and it's much more rewarding to watch than Oppenheimer.
Oppenheimer is a biopic about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the physicist who led the Manhattan Project to develop the atomic bomb. It's a complex and important story, but Nolan's film doesn't do it justice. He's more interested in creating visually stunning images than in telling a compelling story.
🎬 Finally watched the Oppenheimer film, and I have to say, I'm a bit puzzled by all the hype. 🤔
Maybe I'm missing something, but it felt ultra pretentious to me. The visual effects seemed like they were just thrown in for drama rather than adding real depth to the story.
I'm still convinced that the Barbie film is far superior: a film that's meant to be funny but has a very important message all the same.

Weird things I never thought I'd need to know. Undead Barbie is a hilarious gag, but undead Barbie is also a horror show to photograph because bright magenta pink really screws up the color cast of spooky photos.
You can fix the undead Barbie problem by shifting the levels of the green tones down by 2-5% and cutting the magenta saturation. If you have only Barbies, it works great! If you have other characters in your shot, Zombie Barbie will break your heart and make you cry.

I finally saw #Barbie last night, and I loved a lot of it and thought it was funny. But it was also one of those classic examples of political centrism where the movie raises all kinds of legitimate questions about patriarchy, but resolves them without ever actually changing the patriarchy at all. And manages to be incredibly toxic about gender roles in the process. I have so many questions about what was done with Ken, and, you know, the real world of all-male boardrooms.
