Recorded a #bass track last week for a producer who wanted a "clear, piano-like" tone, but I was free to experiment and offer some alternatives. So I sent half a dozen things with some variations.
Message this morning: "I like the first two, but you left some effect on the raw track. Can you resend those dry?"
"They are dry. That's a clear, piano-like tone. "
"No way. It's got like a filter and a chorus and maybe an exciter?"
"Nope."
"OK. Can you do the same part but, like, with flats?"

Another re-discovery: I recorded “Shape Your Own Heaven” in 2017 as part of the EP “Up And Away”. When I listened to it recently, I thought it should be brought out of hibernation; a very lucky find were the stunning abstract video clips by Pexels user StefWithAnF which lend the piece a whole new dimension, or three.

Heute Abend konnte ich eine für mich neue Location erkunden: ZIMMER 16 in der Florastraße in Pankow. Der Kontrabassist Jasper Libuda verblüffte Solo, denn was er allein aus dem oft unterschätzten Instrument herausholte, das hält man kaum für möglich. Seine Musik ist cineastisch und voller erstaunlicher Klangfarben.

I adore my Smith with its massive bottom and snappy highs, but I’ve been digging the Jazz bass for some Dancin’ style finger funk with its slim neck, fat low and aggressively honky midrange punch. Sometimes the guitars/keys don’t need to do much when the rhythm section is locked

Alright, while the Bartolini MK4CBC "Classic" pickups are still on backorder from Bartolini, went ahead and purchased the replacement preamp from Audere: the Pro Z. Also had to buy another knob since I'm pulling one of the switches out of the Ibanez SRMS800 and replacing it with a pot, but I'm excited to get started on this upgrade. #music #bass

A snapshot from my vast and quiet memory palace. On the day that Desert Storm had begun, I got tired of chanting slogans in a town square, so I entered a record shop on the seaside town of Rimini and found "Yes, I am Blind" by Morrissey. Such happiness I remember, when I discovered it had been written by Andy Rourke.
The intro to the album version of Help on the Way is some of my favorite Phil: coming in hard on the 2nd beat and playing against the rhythm of the guitars, the counterpoint, those gorgeously weird bends, the punchy mids, the syncopation, hoo boy!

Don't be afraid about that German language aspect - it's a show to raise your attention for new unheard #music all over the genre spectrum - and exactly this music is what has priority above all other things; so if you don't speak German at all, you will still be sonically pleasured! :)
Usually the first half is more about clubby things (body), while the second half is more about what some wrongly call "difficult" music (for your mind).

A lot of this will be #CreativeCommons licensed music — not because I am a ideologist (well - I am, but I wouldn't force that on you), but because there is a lot of really really well done stuff coming out from there which deserves so much more attention!

Es ist wieder soweit - heute Abend (15.04.2023 / 20 Uhr) wird RADIO IRRTUM! - ausgestrahlt - wie gewohnt auf Alex Berlin (FM 91MHz / Stream https://www.alex-berlin.de/audio/radio-livestream).
Wie immer werde ich Euch gnadenlos durch das musikalische Spektrum der Neuerscheinungen schubsen:
Wobei es in der ersten Hälfte mehr um Club-taugliche Musik geht (für Euren Body), während es in der zweiten Hälfte eher um Musik geht, die ungerechtfertigter Weise als "sperrig" attribuiert werden könnte (für Euren Geist).
Folgen wir also diesem Weg und passieren dabei:

- Hiphop Beatmaker Beatz
- Bass (halftime, 140, Trap, sowas - wisster Bescheid)
- mehr oder weniger beruhigendes Experimentelles (und göttliches!) Geräusch

Dabei auch ganz viel Creative Commons Lizensiertes - gar nicht mal aus ideologischen Gründen, sondern weil aus dieser Ecke immer wieder richtig gutes Zeug kommt, was definitiv mehr Aufmerksamkeit verdient.
Und es gibt mehrere Künstler:Innen zu hören, die ich hier im Fediverse entdeckt habe (siehe oben). \o/

New layoffs, new #introduction
Hi! I'm Hugh from Ireland, but living in Amsterdam.
I'm taking time off between jobs, so I spend my time focusing on learning stuff like #3d-printing, #OpenSCAD, and #rust, #cycling around Amsterdam, playing #guitar and #bass, playing video games with my friends, and listening to lots of podcasts.
I'll do a new one of these when I start the job search properly!
So, here's the thing. I play the #bass. I also write lyrics (quite good, I want to believe). I reside in #Greece. After quite a few years of failed attempts at making music with some friends, I decided to follow my own way. I have a #posthardcore #screamo project in mind, but it seems there are virtually no fans of the genre here. Does anyone think we could create something, even from a distance? I have some ideas, but I'm open to suggestions. Message me!
