My greatest fear, in the current political sphere unfolding, is that captured Public Health officials now basically denying Covid19 is any sort of problem, also claiming they are 'learning lessons' to prepare for the next pandemic, have basically realized they can gaslight the public to accept mass disability and death.

Whelp, after masking profusely through the last few years my #immunocompromised wife and I finally got covid courtesy of #unmasked #bced teachers, staff and children following the almighty #BonnieHenry’s recommendations.
I blame this #BCndp completely for their dismissal of covid mitigations and gutless acceptance of societal sickness over empathy and simple measures that could have saved lives.
I’m currently out of work due to the film strikes, now my wife is out of commission as well because of this #bcndp embracing covid.

Looking at Covid wastewater data from across the US and Canada over the past few weeks and it's hard not to conclude the peak this winter, likely in late January, will be the worst one of the entire pandemic. This means incredibly high community transmission and positivity rates, and with an abysmal take-up of the Omicron specific monovalent vaccine

Here is Oak Bay Mayor Murdoch's video re recent provincial legislative changes around housing in BC. Is the province undermining democracy, or is it asserting its own democratic authority?
Some points are valid, such as that senior governments are responsible for the housing crisis - abandoning public housing for 30+ yrs, lacking financial support commensurate with immigration etc. But democracy, not so much.

Ownership structures and finance are other opportunities for templates.
Legal & accounting, construction & mortgage financing.
VanCity produced a TikTok about a new product they have for groups buying & building together. A good start!
Can we support co-ops and co-housing as well as strata? Can community land trusts make for even more affordability and long term local ownership?
What do I mean when I say templates?
The “Vancouver Special” was a SFH design you could buy / build that is found all over the city.
What are some 3/4/6 unit designs we can work with architects & engineers to have designed as customizable starting points?
How can Canadian companies work together to provide materials and components that fit into these designs?
We have an opportunity for local supply chains.
I don’t think it’s time for half measures. Zoning is just one part.
You need financing, you need architecture / engineering / construction, you need materials.
I am actually worried that we don’t have enough systems or templates in place for this to make an impact.
Most people don’t know this, but rentals are a BIGGER issue outside of urban areas in the province of BC: only SFH, and not affordable to rent an entire house!
From a government news release https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2023PREM0062-001706
In most areas within municipalities of more than 5,000 people, these changes will also require bylaws to allow for:
* three to four units permitted on lots currently zoned for single-family or duplex use, depending on lot size;
* six units permitted on larger lots currently zoned for single-family or duplex use and close to transit stops with frequent service.
Listening to CBC The Current. Mayor of Langley saying they are building out “100s of acres of new urban land” (aka sprawl) so they don’t want to see multi-family homes in single family neighbourhoods.
The argument is that they can’t retrofit infrastructure for SFH neighbourhoods.
This is in response to new #bcpoli legislation around.
