Ticked off another short section of the #WalesCoastalPath today, Not the prettiest start at #Aberthaw #PowerStation, but photographic in it's own way. A giant Rubik Cube and Die was a surprise spot, before the usual impressive coastal views of the #Glamorgan #HeritageCoast kicked in. Finished at #LlantwitMajor #beach

Tide pools on Mattole Beach. Dark rocks with water pooling in the low spots. There's more rocks scattered in the water beyond and waves trying to crash through them. A distant marine layer sits on the water and there happens to be a small boat in the distance to the right.

Striped shore crab. Claws, light on the inside, deliver bits of kelp to the mouth of a small crab just under the water. The crab is mostly dark colors with light green stripes and molting on its shell. Around the crab is a bit of green algae and rock above the water.

Mattole Beach. Standing in the dunes looking out to the dark sand beach. One section of the beach has dark rocks at the water that extend out a little. There's a distant fog bank, but otherwise the sky is blue.

Above Randall Creek on the Cooskie Creek Route. Ridges repeat off into the distance in ever lighter grey-blue colors. In the foreground, grassy hills have a line of Douglas fir. The next hill is also green with a large patch of trees to the left away from the ocean. After that are the vanishing ridges. All is under a blue sky.

Cooskie Creek Route going north. A faint trail of greener grass is visible on the right as it crosses a grassy hill. Another grassy hill is behind that and a grassy cliff behind that. All have lines of Douglas fir trees cutting up the grass areas.

Tolmie's pussy ears. This mariposa lily has three petals of purple with darker purple at the center. Long hairs cover the petals. Between the petals, the sepals are visible. Blue and purple stamen are visible at the center. There is a cluster of three, one still in bud, Grass grows up taller than the little flowers.

North end of Cooskie Creek Route. Looking down a shrub covered hillside that drops steeply to the dark sand beach below. Waves wash the beach leaving a little sand visible. A line of wave comes in for more washing of the sand.

On a lovely evening in August last year I was walking along a beach with my wife. The sun was getting low in the sky casting a faintly yellow glow over the world.

This long exposure shot captures the movement of clouds, and the wind blown grass. Even though there wasn’t much wind, it’s all relative when the photo is 13 seconds long.

We visited Cavendish Beach, a site that was suggested to us by a local. She referred to it as "cavy", and asked her co worker what she thought of the recommendation with an "eh?"

Cavy creates this beautiful gradation from blue to red as the water hits the red soil on the coast.

I practiced my kite stalls, barefoot on the beach, while the kids played in the cold water. I love beach days!

Miller Flat on the Lost Coast Trail. A green grass covered flat ends at a sudden cliff of maybe 15 feet high that drops to a rocky beach. In the distance, there are burned trees on a green hill. Further off, the mountain tops vanish into clouds of the grey sky.

Trail down from Windy Point to Punta Gorda and its lighthouse. The lighthouse is a small pillar just visible on the side of the hill in the distance. A flat, grassy old road drops toward a black beach under a grey sky. A line of rocks splits the sandy beach from the ocean and it's gentle (today) waves, at least at this low tide.

Trail south of Punta Gorda Lighthouse only slightly occupied by a single elephant seal sleeping in the groove. The trail is a dirt line between green growth, some of it flowering. To the left, green hills rise. To the right, dark sandy beach descends becoming rocky. Other elephant seals are scattered on the beach. The sky is foreboding with grey cloud.

River otter, no matter how tempting it is to claim sea otter so close to the sea. This long wet mammal is approaching the camera having not quite noticed the photographer yet.

North trail up to Windy Point from Mattole Beach. A flat, wide spot climbs the hill where there once was road. It climbs to the top of a point of land seen sticking out toward the ocean toward the right. A smooth beach of black sand and flat ocean complete the scene under a clear blue sky.

And we're here! I've wanted to visit the Outer Banks for many, many years and I'm finally here! Super windy, but warm so we headed out onto the beach! Little Ellie was miserable and hunkered down inside my jacket, but Jamie absolutely loved it! We've got two and a half days here so looking forward to seeing more of the area.
