Question for #BelieveInFilm #35mmLoveLetter friends... do you ever shoot in color but share in B&W? I remember trying to make B&W prints in the darkroom from color negative back in the day, and did not get good results. Seems like it'd work much better with today's digital tools. But I've never done it - basically prefer sticking with the original format. Not sure why, really! Just curious what others are doing.

I was surprised to find a handful of double exposures when I took my first look at the pictures from this roll of film! The roll was one previously used in another camera for a few shots before that camera was declared to be letting in not a sliver of light ... Today, I developed: a roll of black and white film, 3 rolls of color film, and 2 rolls of motion picture film.

Getting a good sense of my workflow for b&w, C-41 and ECN-2. Next up: learning to develop E-6 (came into a lot of Ektachrome slide film).

Feels like much longer than 2 months that I’ve been developing film at home in my bathroom!

You don’t need a darkroom, you just need a dark bag. Learning to load film onto a reel is harder than all the chemicals and technique.

Hello all! I'm Valerie.

I am a published photographer who wears several freelance hats these days. I always #BelieveInFilm and had an all-film photography photoblog called your waitress for 15 years. Sometimes I do use my iPhone, mainly for multiple exposures.

Yes, I was a waitress and worked in the restaurant industry for over 25 years.

I live currently in KCMO with a Persian rescued cat named Yoda.

Here is some of my 35mm photography shot with my beloved Canon AE-1.

#introduction

A woman with her back to the camera stands at a public telephone on a busy street in Chinatown.
Silhouettes of people walking on the covered stairs with rails under a train station in downtown Chicago. Buildings and city life is in the background.
A woman wears a sign reading NO WAR lens against a kiosk. A man holding a pack of cigarettes stands next to her. Other protestors some with signs are visible as well.
A mannequin head looks out with the shadows of a building and a street sign in the background.

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

Today's film review is the hard-to-spell Lomography Lomochrome Turquoise XR, that will turn your blues orange and oranges blue:

https://www.analog.cafe/r/lomochrome-turquoise-xr-film-review-c9mh

This film makes a really strong effect, almost as if you're looking at a negative (although it leaves the greens complimentary). I was a little apprehensive about trying it, but in the end, I had a lot of fun with this emulsion.

#filmphotography #analogphotography #photography #lomography #shootfilmbenice

Lomochrome Turquoise in monochrome, straight from the scanner, and inverted (in slices)
UPS truck shot on Lomochroem Turquoise - it appears greenish-brown and its red lights are cobalt blue. The sky and the road are hues of orange
A long white dog sniffing around the ocean rocks, the reflection of the sky in the water is oragne.
A box of Lomography Turquoise film on white background.

In my opinion, one of the best feeling being a film photographer, is that moment when I realized I've unknowingly already took an epic shot a few weeks earlier.

Those are the awesomest moments.

Deconstructed # 1 (2023)
Polaroid emulsion lift on A5 paper

Lots more to come soon! There will be prints available to buy too 😊

#BelieveInFilm #Polaroid #EmulsionLift #Art

Polaroid emulsion lift, tightly cropped on a white square background.

The image shows three stems of dried plant material arranged in a dark red glass vase, silhouetted against a slightly textured warm sepia background. There is a large allium seed head on the right, and two smaller poppy seed heads off to the left. The vase is slightly transparent, so the deep red colour can be seen and the ends of the plant stems are visible through the glass.

The edges of the emulsion are uneven and organic, and there are occasional small creases and bits of Polaroid chemistry sticking to the emulsion, giving the whole thing a texture that looks a bit like plaster on a wall.

There was some discussion on Twitter a while ago talking about trying to always take a selfie in a mirror on each roll so you know what camera you used. Before that it would never have occurred to me to do this intentionally, but it’s so useful!!!
