Monday night #VCSBG #boardgames & #craftbeer
Another play for Moa designed by #MartinWallace. This time it took half the time to play. Once again I came second.
Next up was Istanbul. A game I have no recollection of playing before. But I have. Cheers to #BGG for having a better memory that I have.
Last game for the night was Savannah Park. It's a light tile movement/placement #boardgame that is simple but challenging. And I don't just mean finding the specific tiles on the your board.

My #BGstats #boardgame plays for August 2023
5 #boardgames new for me brings my total titles logged closer to 1000. It’s not a perfect metric as some games get lumped into one entry on #BGG and others have multiple entries for essentially the same game. Lots of game were played before I started logging my games plays way back in 2007 so the total is higher than 1k. But I’ll celebrate anyway.
Everyone who is interested in the heavy game for Essen #Spiel24 by Stefan Feld (his most heavy game ever): It has been put up on #BGG. And yes, it lacks a lot of info at this moment. They'll follow in the upcoming weeks.
Anyone played Vengeance: Roll & Fight yet?
I've done a couple of solo games, but I'd like to hear other experiences, particularly with multiplayer.

An interesting aspect of the game is the aspect ratio (pun intended) of the board, a roll-up strip of a soft synthetic material. I'm curious to see how well it will endure frequent use compared to the classic foldable cardboard that often ends up splitting into separate squares.
From to the pictures on #BGG it looks like our edition is cheaper than the original, with simpler dragons and cardboard instead of wooden tokens for the resources.

For those who have gone to #PaxUnplugged before to play #boardgames, what notes would you have for new attendees, especially compared to older conventions such as Gen Con or Origins? I gather there isn't really an event system, but details seem to be (more) sparse compared to the other big events in #BGG forums or elsewhere.
With badges and hotels now available, and finally having an opportunity to go, I'm curious what I should be aware of that may not apply (or vice versa) compared to other conventions.

My total number different board games played is edging closer to 1000. So I am trying to play new and different games. John suggested "Crusaders: Thy Will Be Done". Well, it's historically themed so why not?
It was not familiar at all. When I came to logging the play on #BGG lo and behold I had playtested the game twice back in 2015. Absolutely no memory of that at all!

Einmal 007 sein! Das kann man in "Spectre" nicht, aber man kann einer der berühmten Bond-Bösewichter sein. Gemeinsam mit anderen Oberschurken versuchen wir, der Chef der Geheimorganisation "Spectre" zu werden und alle anderen auszustechen - allerdings muss man dabei doch ein wenig auf den britischen Agenten achten. Wir haben das Spiel ausprobiert und sagen euch ob es sich lohnt.

The final day of #origins2023 was a game of Izayoi, Madrino, and Gardeners with a friend who we don't see often. I've written about all of those before so I'll skip that.
That leaves just the overall debrief on #boardgames (and non-game specific thoughts):
1) I missed exactly one thing I'd been scheduled for (the NSDM Cold War LARP) which is a bummer, but I needed food then.
2) The Smithee Awards ceremony is hilariously bad (they show clips of bad movies and the audience votes on various categories). I'd consider going again, but probably not both nights. It was quite delightful to see the entire audience join in the chants of "R-P-G, R-P-G, R-P-G!!!" But Amityville In Space (or even Sharkula) was robbed of Worst Picture though.
3) I typically schedule games that I can't get played at home or to play with specific friends I don't see normally (see the annual FitL game) but I don't know that I want to book as many as I am currently vs some other activities I can't do at home. I hit a mental wall come early Saturday and never really recovered until Monday morning. Need to scale it back next year.
4) To get MegaCiv played, I'll probably have to do it through the official event registration. Scheduling it on the #BGG Geeklist just didn't work and now I know where the upper limits are. That annoys me.
5) The breakfast at the Hampton returned to pre-covid quality, and thus nudges it into the lead for being worth the expense/effort to get a room there.

Ich musste überzeugt werden (Meta-Eindruck: 🤷), fand es dann umso besser. #BGG Top 10? Keine Ahnung. Es erfindet das Rad nicht neu, aber macht auch nichts falsch. Übersichtliche Regeln, zügige Runden, scheint abwechslungsreich. 👍
Sohn (11+) war es zu trocken und strategisch, ohne klare Zielführung am Beginn. Er muss wohl noch ein paar mal drüber schlafen. 😕

Hamlet: The Village Building Game is a #BoardGame I Kickstarted that finally arrived after a 4 month shipping delay caused by the collapse of Funagain Logistics.
The first playthrough was fun, but the kids absolutely demolished me. The 14 yr old won, naturally.
Interesting game mechanics, unlike any game we've played before. It'll definitely get added to the rotation. #tabletopgames #bgg

Time for a #shelfie. This is a hand crafted bookcase for my games. You know how you can tell I made it? The shelves sag! Who knew games could be so heavy?
This is one of 2 big bookcases and features nearly all of my solo playable games. I really should buckle down and get rid of at least half of these. But they all offer me something and I find it hard to break up with them. I just don't play enough to justify them all!

The game at the top of "The Hotness" on BoardGameGeek is now Brass: Birmingham.
It dethroned Gloomhaven, which still sits at #2. #3 is the sequel, Frosthaven.

After M and I got tired of Terraforming Mars, I suggested playing Troyes on Board Game Arena. I liked playing it there so much, I bought a physical copy (and the Ladies expansion), but I've never played it other than solo (it has a solid solo "bot", but be sure to get the updated one on #BGG ). I also explained it to C, so we've been playing that. I must have done a good job explaining, because they crushed me the 2nd game! I'd do much better if I remembered what color I was. #boardgames #today
