It's at least 4 lanes wide the entire way. A two way protected bike path only needs one of those lanes.

They can take a parking lane or a traffic ane. Taking the traffic lane would be a great way to calm traffic on this residential St.

Lumos, the company that makes my bike helmet with built-in lights, has a new model coming that looks super cool.

It has lights, though they are more subtle. Instead, the entire helmet is basically a canvas where you can add a custom design. Dang, if I hadn't recently upgraded my helmet I'd be all over this.

I see a lot of posts on here about Rad Power bikes. I don't want to tell you what to like or not like if it's just about style or what not, but please consider a different brand if you can. Depending on the model they are skimping on safety stuff to save a few dollars and it's going to hurt someone. Seriously, there should not be cheap cable actuated brakes on something that goes 28mph (among other issues). #bicycles

A customer brought this into the shop recently and I can't get over how good it looks. It's a steel Mxxxxxo frame in a style that Pegoretti calls Ciavete but I'm pretty sure it's what would happen if Willem de Kooning painted a bike. #bicycles

A rational road policy would be to reduce the speed limit to 60km/hr until road works can be done to widened the road shoulder to make it safer.

Under normal conditions a driver encountering a cyclist on this road is going to need to slow from 80km/hr to 20 km/hr immediately upon seeing the cyclist as the road isn't wide enough to safely overtake.

Minimum stopping distance at 80 km/hr is 65 metres. Some corners on this road don't provide that distance of visibility (which is why overtaking isn't allowed on this road).

As Australia prepares for a horror summer fuelled by the climate crisis, Randwick council in Sydney voted to remove a cycleway planned for Maroubra Road through Maroubra Junction, Eastgardens and towards the beach.

A motion to rescind the change failed.

When we came to the little river 'La Brancla' there was no bridge, so we had to cross the river by foot carrying the #bicycles. We took the oportunity to take a bath in the clear and fresh water. It was so good to wash the sweat off 😅

@glightly I think the impact car-centric design has had on how we respond to emergencies has been largely ignored. Maze-like #suburbs with cul-de-sacs and minimal exit points are a nightmare both for #evacuation and #emergency responders. #Cars themselves are bad as well due to their size. I suspect there are many situations in which #bicycles or #transit could massively improve our emergency response.

Car culture is inherently right wing.

Car culture took off in the US because of the razing of the inner city and the construction of (initially) all white suburbs to keep Those People™ out of the Good Neighborhoods.

The expansion of cars was made possible by the deliberate destruction of public transit, which You Know Who® disproportionately relies on.

The continued reliance on cars is encouraged in large part by the fossil fuel industry, which is notoriously hostile to anything remotely socially equitable.

The ever-increasing "tankization" of US cars is a necessary safety measure to the growing size of other people's cars, which then creates massive vulnerabilities for pedestrians and people outside of cars.

The structural dependence on cars is then naturalized through this stupid American narrative of "freedom," which in the usual right-wing sense means "freedom to be dependent on an exploitative corporation."
